Tesla Assisted Driving has been approved in Latvia. This is the tenth EU country.

Latvia has joined the EU countries that have approved Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD). Tesla Europe announced this on October 26, with the software update set to roll out soon, though no specific date was given. Poland is not yet on the list.
The Latvian CSDD (Road Traffic Safety Directorate) evaluated the documentation from the Netherlands, consulted with other national authorities, and reviewed Tesla’s modifications. These include stricter limits on speed deviations from the set limit, automatic reset of manual speed adjustments after each trip, and enhanced monitoring of drivers.
Ten countries in half a year
The starting point was the temporary Dutch RDW type approval from April 10, 2026. Most countries simply recognized it reciprocally without conducting their own tests. The order is as follows:
Netherlands, April 10, 2026
Lithuania, May 20
Estonia, May 29
Denmark, June 9
Belgium, June 10
Slovenia, September 7
Czech Republic, September 21
Croatia, September 29
Slovakia, October 16
Latvia, October 26
You can see a pattern. Four countries after the Netherlands in less than two months, then nearly three months of pause, and since September new approvals have come in every week or two.
In Europe, the feature is called Tesla Assisted Driving. After recent regulatory changes, the term “Full Self-Driving” was deemed misleading.
It remains a Level 2 assistant according to SAE, not autonomous. The system controls speed, steering, and brakes, changes lanes, and navigates through intersections based on navigation. The driver doesn’t need to keep hands on the wheel at all times but must stay focused on the road and ready to react immediately. At Level 2, responsibility lies with the human driver.
A long way to full EU approval
National approvals are not a decision for the entire Union. The latter requires a qualified majority in the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles, meaning at least 15 out of 27 countries representing 65% of the EU’s population. Ten of the countries on the list are mainly smaller markets, so the outcome will be determined by the larger ones. Germany, France, and Italy are still analyzing the matter, with a vote scheduled for December.
For Polish Tesla drivers, this is currently just watching from the sidelines. Neighbors Czechia and Slovakia already have approval, while we are waiting for a Union decision or our own national path.
Will Berlin, Paris, and Rome add their votes by December, or will Tesla have to collect approvals country by country for a long time?
