Tauron Tanie Ładowanie is now available. The subscription and pricing have been confirmed: AC at 0.29 PLN/kWh (!), DC at 0.49 PLN/kWh on weekends between 10-16 hours.

Tauron has officially launched the Tanie Ładowanie service, which allows for cheaper charging at the operator’s stations. Those who decide to sign a 12-month contract with the operator will be able to top up their batteries at rates that are practically minimal. The best deal applies on weekends and holidays, when charging via a Type 2 (AC) connector from 10 to 16 hours costs 0.29 PLN/kWh. Alternatively, using a faster DC charger incurs a cost of 0.49 PLN/kWh.

Tanie Ładowanie at Tauron: Pricing, Cost-Effectiveness

Cost-Effectiveness and Hidden Traps

The service along with its rates are described on Tauron’s website HERE, and the terms of service can be found HERE. The pricing for Tauron Tanie Ładowanie is as follows. Keep in mind that it requires a monthly subscription fee of 79.99 złoty and applies during the SUMMER period, meaning from April to September (6 months):

On weekends and holidays, from 10-16: AC 0.29 zł/kWh, DC 0.49 zł/kWh,

On weekends and holidays, from 16:01-9:59: AC 1.59 zł/kWh, DC 1.99 zł/kWh,

On weekdays, from 10-16: AC 0.59 zł/kWh, DC 0.79 zł/kWh,

On weekdays, from 16:01-9:59: AC 1.59 zł/kWh, DC 1.99 zł/kWh.

In winter (October–March), there is a single rate that applies regardless of the time of day or week: AC at 1.79 PLN/kWh and DC at 2.09 PLN/kWh. It’s clear that even these high winter rates are comparable to previous offers when using the operator’s infrastructure during periods with modest, no-fee promotions. In short: an acceptable pricing structure. Against this backdrop, GreenWay Polska performs moderately well: with the Energia Max subscription (39.99 PLN/month during holidays, 79.99 PLN/month outside holidays), the charging rates are AC at 1.6 PLN/kWh and DC at 2.1 PLN/kWh.

To be fair, it should be noted that GreenWay has ultra-fast chargers (350–400 kW) in its infrastructure, while Tauron’s equipment ranges from 50–100–120 kW.

Cost-effectiveness and pitfalls

What about the cost-effectiveness of Tauron Tanie Ładowanie? It’s undeniable in the summer when we need to drive several thousand kilometers across southern Poland, where Tauron’s infrastructure is available, allowing us to reduce charging costs by three to four times compared to a regular outlet. Assuming the cost at a regular outlet is 1.1 zł/kWh, while using Tauron’s discounted AC charging at 0.29 zł/kWh, it only takes charging less than 100 kWh per month (exactly 98.9 kWh) for the subscription cost to be offset.

There are two problems. First: in 6 hours (from 10 to 16), a typical car with an AC-DC onboard charger can recharge about 60 kWh of energy. This means we need almost two full charging sessions. Second: we won’t be the only ones who want to take advantage of this promotion. When we arrive at the charging station, it turns out the AC port is already occupied by a taxi driver with a Mercedes EQV. Meanwhile, to offset the subscription cost, 132 kWh (exactly 131.2 kWh) needs to be charged per month via DC charging. The upside is that we’ll spend less time parked.

To offset the relatively high rates in winter—since we sign contracts for 12 months and the 3 months of Tauron’s summer season are already behind us—we should double both amounts, ideally increasing them three to four times, so that with a subscription costing nearly 80 zlotys on Tauron, it becomes cheaper for us. In short: we need to make some adjustments and preferably travel within the operator’s charging stations:
