Switch Mobility signs new deal to supply 840 electric buses in India
Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of Indian commercial manufacturer Ashok Leyland, has secured an order for 840 electric buses from Navi Mumbai-based bus operator Antony Road Transport Solutions. The two companies have signed an agreement under which the latter will deploy these buses for public transport in Delhi.

Antony Road Transport Solutions plans to acquire 420 nine-metre and 420 twelve-metre electric buses from Switch Mobility under the PM E-Drive Scheme, an initiative from India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI). It plans to operate these buses on behalf of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi’s Transport Department in the national capital.
Neither of the two companies has shared any specific details about the 840 electric buses other than the two different body lengths. The 420 nine-metre buses are all likely to be Switch Mobility’s all-new EiV9 model that debuted at the Prawaas 5.0 exhibition in July. This is the only nine-metre electric bus Switch Mobility currently offers in India.
The EiV9 has a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that develops 213 kW, paired with either a 183 kWh or 284 kWh battery pack, and the latter delivers a range of over 200 km. The nine-metre electric bus supports dual-gun fast-charging and takes two hours to fully charge. Customers can specify this model with an air suspension and disc brakes on both axles.
In the twelve-metre segment, the EiV12 is the only model Switch Mobility offers in India. The company will likely supply its low-floor version, which it has designed for intracity and staff applications. It offers the EiV12 low-floor with up to 39 passenger seats and standing space for up to 24 passengers. It uses a combination of a 235 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 283 kWh LFP battery pack that delivers a range of up to 200 km. The EiV12 low-floor also supports dual-gun fast-charging and takes about two hours to fully charge. Customers can specify it with an air suspension on both axles but not rear disc brakes.
Switch Mobility has delivered more than 3,000 electric buses globally to date, collectively covering over 200 million kilometres. It also offers electric light commercial vehicles and has delivered over 3,000 vehicles in this category so far. In FY2026 (April 2025-March 2026), the company sold 1,530 electric buses and 1,600 electric LCVs in India, which represented a year-on-year growth of 238 per cent and 56 per cent, respectively.

With a mix of 9-metre and 12-metre electric buses, we are enabling operators to address diverse passenger mobility requirements while supporting the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation.”
