Larger differences between expensive and cheapest
It’s not just diesel and gasoline prices that are rising these days. There is also a trend of increasing costs for fast charging – and these prices are likely to rise further by autumn.

The Electric Vehicle Association closely monitors the cost of fast charging in Norway.

Recently, prices have remained relatively stable, but since our last update, charging stations Circle K, Recharge, and Kople have all raised the price to 6.79 per kilowatt-hour (kWt) for drop-in fast charging.
It’s not a huge increase, ranging from 50 to 30 øre for these three charging companies, but compared to the charging company with the lowest drop-in price at present, Ishavsveien, the difference is exactly 2.04 kroner per kWt.
Geographical differences and dynamic pricing
This means that if you, for example, charge 50 kWt, you save 102 kroner by choosing Ishavsveien over the three currently most expensive options.
At the same time, it’s not that simple—usually, it isn’t. Ishavsveien only has charging stations in Finnmark and parts of Troms, so for most people in the rest of the country, making a trip north just to charge a bit cheaper turns out to be a costly endeavor.
If you choose Ionity or Uno-X instead, both of which are at the lower end of the scale and have charging stations across much of the country, you can save 76 and 62 kroner respectively right now, based on the example of charging 50 kilowatt-hours.
As for Tesla, Norway’s largest charging company with nearly 3000 fast-charging points at its 150 stations spread throughout the country, it’s difficult to provide exact prices.
The reason is Tesla’s particularly dynamic pricing model, which varies from day to day, from station to station, and depending on when you charge during the day.
The pattern here is that it’s more affordable to charge in the late evening and at night, while daytime charging can be much more expensive, especially if you don’t drive a Tesla or don’t have a subscription. The simplest way to find Tesla’s charging price for any time/place is through the Tesla app.
To provide a reference for Tesla’s share in our price overview, we therefore give an average price based on the highest daily price at selected stations—the two largest in Eastern Norway, and the largest in Southern Norway, Western Norway, Central Norway, and Northern Norway (Eidsvoll Verk/Nebbenes, Rygge, Lyngdal, Åsane, Berkåk, Mo i Rana).

I hope prices can rise further by autumn.
At the same time, it’s not unlikely that fast-charging prices could increase even more by autumn.
Fast-charging prices are influenced by the spot price of electricity, network rental fees, as well as operating costs and expenses related to expanding charging stations — and of course, the competitive landscape among charging companies.
The biggest single factor affecting prices is the electricity price, which is expected to rise as it gets colder during autumn and winter.
“Experience suggests that the spot price of electricity tends to be a bit higher when it’s colder, but at the same time, competition among charging companies should prevent any sharp price increases in the future,” says Erik Lorentzen, head of Elbilforeningen.
He points out that the rising gasoline and diesel prices this autumn could encourage more Norwegians to consider replacing their fossil fuel cars with electric vehicles.
“It’s important that charging prices don’t rise simultaneously — but also that the spot price remains fairly stable so that it isn’t prohibitively expensive to charge at home, especially for those who haven’t opted for the Norwegian price,” notes Lorentzen.
