Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa rejects the idea of separating the company’s European and U.S. brands. The current strategy involves each of the 14 brands playing its own distinct role.
Separating brands like Citroën and Fiat from Jeep and Ram is not feasible at all, Filosa told Bloomberg Television according to Automotive News. The company develops technologies worldwide for all its models, including powertrain systems and computer architecture. Each brand uses these developments as a common foundation.
The CEO is currently reviewing the company’s strategy. The aim of this measure is to allocate expenses more effectively among the brands, as many of them serve the same customers in the mass market.
In addition, Stellantis plans to strengthen its ties with Dongfeng this year. According to Filosa, partnerships with Chinese companies provide an opportunity to utilize excess capacity in Europe without having to close factories.
Regarding financial performance, the group’s chief executive emphasized that the company has already crossed the threshold to profitability, following losses recorded in the previous year. He added, “We must continue to work day by day on implementing our plans.”
The automaker “is not considering” selling its sports car brand Maserati at all, he said. In May, management at Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD stated that brands like Maserati, a Stellantis subsidiary, were “very interesting.” Meanwhile, Executive Vice-President Stella Li emphasized that BYD is still evaluating the option but has taken no action yet.
