The Smart #5 Premium now features all-wheel drive and a Black Collection.
Smart is expanding its model lineup for the 2027 model year. New additions include an all-wheel-drive version of the #5 Premium and a Black Collection for the Pro+ variants of #1, #3, and #5. The new versions are now available for ordering in Germany.
The most significant technical update relates to the Smart #5 Premium. The previously available rear-wheel-drive version now gets an all-wheel-drive alternative with a dual-motor drive system; the price increase is 2,500 euros, though the rear-wheel-drive version will remain in the lineup.
The additional engine reduces range, however. While the #5 Premium with rear-wheel drive can travel up to 590 kilometers according to WLTP, the Premium AWD version achieves only 540 kilometers, with combined fuel consumption rising from 18.4 to 19.9 kWh/100 kilometers. The standard equipment remains unchanged: the Sennheiser sound system, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual leather seats, and double-glazing are all still included.
Black Collection for all three models
Smart has also introduced a Black Collection for the Pro+ variants of #1, #3, and #5. This design package costs an additional 600 euros and includes black front grille elements, a rear diffuser, side sills, window trim, and roof railings, along with black wheels, a black paint finish, and privacy glass.
The Black Collection is available for the Pro+ versions of Smart #1, #3, and #5.
Smart uses black 18-inch Amp wheels on the #1, 19-inch Flux wheels on the #3, and shiny black 19-inch Orbit wheels on the #5. No technical changes come with the Black Collection; the WLTP range of the Pro+ models remains at 420 kilometers for the #1, 435 kilometers for the #3, and 590 kilometers for the #5. Additionally, Smart expands the lineup with three new interior options.
The new versions come with a portfolio that was recently significantly discounted. In February, Smart raised its Smart Prämie to 6,000 euros for models #1 and #3, and 4,000 euros for model #5; the discount applied to purchases of new vehicles only and not to leasing options. The current announcement does not clarify whether that previous discount offer still applies to the now introduced 2027 model year versions. Smart has not yet responded to our editorial inquiries regarding this and the overall prices of the new model year.
It is clear, however, that Smart is also working on advancing its product lineup technically in parallel. In China, a thoroughly revised #1 has been available since early August, featuring an 800-volt architecture along with 6C charging technology. When and in what form this technology will arrive in Europe remains uncertain. The #5 Premium AWD as well as the Black Collection for #1, #3, and #5 are available for ordering in Germany since August 19, with additional European markets set to follow gradually.
