The European software version OS 2.3.0 EU is available as an over-the-air update for the Smart #5. It introduces a digital vehicle key in Apple Wallet and improves features such as driving settings and distractions warnings. The update will be rolled out gradually across all European markets by mid-September 2026.

With a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, the electric SUV can now be unlocked, locked, and started without needing to open the “Hello Smart” app or carry a key fob. The smartphone can remain in the pocket. Additional features include automatic locking when leaving and hands-free operation.

The wallet key can be set up either through the “Hello Smart” app or directly via the electric vehicle’s central display. Digital keys can be shared with other users without them needing their own smart account. The granted access can be revoked again through Apple Wallet or the “Hello Smart” app.

In addition, according to Smart, the update improves the stability and performance of driving settings. This allows the settings to adjust more smoothly and reliably. Optimized control and reset functions also make it easier to customize personal settings.

The distraction warning function has also been revised. It is designed to more reliably detect when the driver repeatedly directs their attention to the passenger display area while driving, and it is active in all driving modes except “P(ark)”. If the driver looks at the passenger display for an extended period while driving, a warning message appears.
