Smart #2 is now available for sale in China. It costs 99,900 yuan.

Smart has introduced the #2 model to the Chinese market, the two-door, two-seater electric successor to the Fortwo. The Premium version costs 99,900 yuan (59,000 PLN), features a 35.8 kWh LFP battery from CATL, and is said by the manufacturer to achieve 410 km of range in the CLTC cycle. The limited Couture Edition, with 999 units each for China and Europe, has already sold out.

The Chinese launch comes less than a month after its debut at the Paris auto show. Smart announced there a European pre-order price of 19,990 euros (around 87,000 PLN) and a range of about 290 km according to WLTP standards. In China, the same vehicle costs approximately 50,000 PLN. CarNewsChina estimates the range at around 332 km WLTP, but this figure should be treated with caution since Smart itself listed a lower figure for the European market.

Short like the Fortwo, more interior space

The body was designed by the Mercedes-Benz team, retaining the classic layout with wheels at the corners. The car is 2751 mm long (2764 mm with the spoiler), and it has narrower tires at the front than at the back to improve handling and traction. The trunk lid is split, with the lower part capable of holding up to 120 kg, so it can also serve as a seat. The floor is 25 mm lower than in the previous Fortwo, providing 1000 mm of headroom and, according to Smart, 78% space utilization.

The cabin features a 12.8-inch central screen with Flyme Link, 8.8-inch displays, a heated steering wheel and seats, as well as Sennheiser audio.

Charging, Suspension, and Safety

Charging from 30% to 80% takes about 15 minutes. With a 35.8 kWh battery, this results in around 18 kWh per quarter hour, meaning an average of about 72 kW. For a city car, this is a decent figure, though the actual charging speed depends on temperature and the charger. There’s also V2L, allowing you to power external devices from the car.

The suspension is independent on both axles: MacPherson struts at the front and a five-link system at the rear. The turning radius is 3.35 meters. In terms of safety features, it includes up to seven airbags, including one central one between the seats, along with 16 safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and lane keeping assist.

The price for the Premium version of the Europe Smart has not been announced yet. For now, there is only the amount of 19,990 euros from the Paris pre-order.
