By shifting focus toward heavier, more spacious electric SUVs, Smart has moved significantly away from its roots in recent years. With the Smart #2, the joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz has returned to its core identity and introduced the successor to the Smart Fortwo. Order books opened on October 13, and according to the brand, it was a complete success.

The positive response to the launch of pre-orders shows that the market has been waiting for this return. The limited edition of 999 units of the Couture Edition was sold out within 14 days across all European markets after pre-orders opened on October 13, 2026.

"The demand for the Couture Edition shows that the Smart #2 touches people emotionally. A special model that sells out before it even hits the roads can only be achieved with a vehicle that truly excites people. For us in Germany, this is a strong start. This proof of confidence is a great motivator for us, and we will build on this momentum to get the Smart #2 on the roads as quickly as possible in 2027," comments Florian Nemitz, CEO of Smart Germany.

The price for the Couture Edition starts at 25,690 euros and includes a comprehensive suite of features based on the Premium Line. These include a panoramic glass roof, a Sennheiser audio system, seat and steering wheel heating, a smartphone charging port, and a navigation system. Additionally, the Couture Edition features an exclusive silk-matte white paint finish, a roof trimmed in gold, and 16-inch Lyra wheels with golden accents.

Alongside the already sold-out Couture Edition, the vehicle is available in the Pure, Pure+, and Premium variants. With a starting price of 19,990 euros, the manufacturer positions the #2 model as an affordable option in the highly competitive market for compact electric cars. The first vehicles will be delivered to customers in the second quarter of 2027. So far, the car has only been displayed at the Paris Auto Show in October 2026.

The electric two-seater is built on the specially developed Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) and measures 2.75 meters in length, 1.76 meters in width, and 1.56 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 1.88 meters. With a curb weight of 1,140 kilograms and a maximum payload of 205 kilograms, the vehicle offers a trunk volume of 305 liters behind the two seats. Its turning circle of just under 6.95 meters ensures excellent maneuverability in urban traffic.

The rear axle is powered by an electric motor with 60 kW (82 HP) of output and 130 Newton meters of torque, which accelerates the #2 to a top speed of 140 km/h. The energy source is a CATL LFP battery with a capacity of 35.7 kWh, enabling a WLTP range of up to 290 kilometers. While the base Pure version charges via AC at a maximum of 7.4 kW, higher trims support 11 kW. All variants offer DC fast charging at up to 65 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% charge in less than 20 minutes.
