Smart #2 makes its market debut in China

Smart's two-seater electric city car is available in China as part of the Premium trim line at a list price of 102,900 yuan, which is roughly 14,000 euros. The Smart 2 is designed as a successor to the iconic Smart ForTwo and made its world debut in Paris in October.
The Smart #2 Premium is now available in China on a limited time basis at an introductory price that is slightly below the listed price. Specifically, Smart is initially offering it for 99,900 yuan (around 13,370 euros). It is not known when cheaper versions will follow alongside the Premium version. The two-seater vehicle was introduced last month at the auto show in Paris. Here is our detailed report on this 2.75-meter-long city car. A difference from the European performance specifications is that Smart claims a CLTC range of up to 410 kilometers for the #2 in China.
In addition to the premium version, Smart is also introducing a “Couture Edition” limited to 999 units. This limit applies to both the European and Chinese markets combined. It’s clear that production and market release coincide for the Chinese launch, as the #2 model is manufactured locally by Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing, which is part of Geely. The Chinese production supplies this two-seater vehicle for the Chinese market, as well as for Europe and other overseas markets.
As early as August, key details about the model became known from the MIIT application required in China: The values released at that time confirmed that the Smart #2 has a length of 2.75 or 2.76 meters depending on the configuration, with a width of 1.67 meters and a height of 1.56 meters. The wheelbase is 1.88 meters. The vehicle weighs 1,130 kilograms empty. The two-seater is powered by an InfiMotion electric motor with 60 kW of power. Later, the LFP battery capacity of 35.8 kWh was made public.
The Smart #2 is intended to carry forward the DNA of the original Fortwo while elevating it to a new technological level. Back in June, Wolfgang Ufer, Smart’s Europe head, emphasized his expectations in our podcast “eMobility Insights”: “A legend is returning — and it will be the best two-seater ever made.”
