Say goodbye to the Polestar 2 as we know it

Say goodbye to the Polestar 2 as we know it
An electric car on a highway surrounded by green fields and distant hills, with an elegant design and tail lights.

But if you want a new 2, it’s still possible. And a completely new generation of the model is expected next year.

If you try to order a new Polestar 2 on the car brand’s Norwegian website now, you’ll see this message:

"The selected configuration is not available for factory ordering. Compare your configuration with vehicles ready for delivery."

You can still get a factory-built Polestar 2, but configuring it according to your own preferences and having it produced is out of the question.

If you’re instead satisfied with choosing an available, pre-configured car from Polestar Norway’s inventory, that’s possible—though at a price increase of 50-60,000 kroner, in addition to a campaign interest rate of 1.99 percent and winter tires included for cars delivered this year.

“A completely new car”

The Polestar 2 was the brand’s first electric vehicle, though oddly enough, the brand’s first model was a hybrid, despite having promoted itself as an electric brand throughout.

Since its launch in the summer of 2020, nearly 200,000 units of this model have been sold in total, with 16,000 of them on Norwegian roads.

But even though Polestar has stopped producing it in its current form, the brand announced last winter that a completely new version of the model will be launched in early 2027.

What will remain from the current version for the upcoming Polestar 2 is only its name, as it will be built on a completely new platform shared with the next compact SUV, the Polestar 7.

We also know that the upcoming Polestar 2 will be more sporty, slightly longer, and have a lower visual profile. Polestar’s design chief, Philip Römer, described it in winter as a “completely new car” that will “set a new standard in the segment.”

Using big words isn’t entirely unfamiliar in the automotive industry, so we’ll have to wait anxiously until next year to see what this new standard will be...
