Skoda is preparing a new hybrid Karoq despite the launch of the electric Elroq

Expected to have a maximally extended lifespan, the Skoda Karoq will eventually receive a second generation. It will be offered in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions for this update.

In its electrification plans, Skoda initially intended not to replace the Karoq. The Elroq was supposed to take its place as a conventional model, with its name being an abbreviation of Electric Karoq. However, despite its success, this electric SUV does not dominate the market entirely. Like all European automakers, Skoda now plans for conventional models to remain on the market for a longer period. As a result, work has begun on a second generation of the Karoq.

Klaus Zellmer has indeed confirmed this plan to our colleagues at Autocar. This new Karoq is expected to hit the market in 2028 and is positioned as a relative of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi Q3, and Cupra Terramar. However, it will be produced at a Skoda factory in Kvasiny, where it will share assembly lines with the Kodiaq. The logic holds true: the Elroq is a shorter version of the Enyaq, while the Karoq will be a shorter version of the Kodiaq...

It will also inherit some of the engine options from its larger seven-seater sibling. This second generation of five-seat C-segment SUV will thus offer a plug-in hybrid variant, as well as the non-plug-in hybrid engine currently being used in Volkswagen Group’s lineup.
