Skoda Peaq – the story of one drive
In the world of electric cars, range records usually belong to prototypes, test vehicles, or models that have undergone extensive modifications. This time it’s completely different. Skoda has just announced that the production Peaq model covered 936 kilometers without charging, breaking the record in the seven-seater electric car segment.
The idea originated among two Skoda employees: Marek Jež and Jakub Krs. “We wanted to see how far the Peaq could go on a single charge with its 91-kWh battery,” explains Krs, who is in charge of Skoda’s high-voltage battery strategy. The two set off from Mladea Boleslav toward the Netherlands, driving under controlled conditions by TÜV SÜD, according to a statement from the Czech brand.
According to a report published on Skoda Storyboard, the route went through Germany, and the drivers stopped only to switch seats, rest, and eat. They arrived in Zandvoort the following afternoon, ending their journey with results that significantly exceeded the WLTP certified figures.
By how much more?
Skoda states that the Peaq 90 – as this variant was used – has an official range of 647 km. The record distance covered was therefore 289 km longer, which is nearly 45 percent. “The goal was to show what the technology can achieve when pushed to its limits. To maximize range, we chose the most favorable route and adjusted our driving style,” says Krs.
Marek Jež, head of the Peaq model series, adds however that in everyday use drivers will not drive in such a fuel-efficient manner. “Customers will make use of all the capabilities of Peaq – its dynamics, comfort, and advanced infotainment,” he emphasizes.
Specifications
The record was set by a vehicle equipped with a 91-kWh traction battery (86 kWh net), a 210 kW engine, rear-wheel drive, and 19-inch wheels fitted with standard low-rolling-resistance tires. Aerodynamics also played a significant role — the Peaq’s drag coefficient is 0.249. The average energy consumption during driving was 9.2 kWh/100 km, a level that has so far been associated more with compact hatchbacks than large SUVs — according to the manufacturer.
The Peaq is produced at Skoda’s main factory in Mlada Boleslav and introduces several new features to the brand’s lineup: integrated handles, a panoramic roof with Dynamic Shade Control, and two-way charging. Interest in the model is high—Skoda reports over 10,000 orders.
Conclusions
The record distance driven does not change the official WLTP figures, but it shows the great potential inherent in Peaq’s new architecture. After all, this isn’t the only such record in the market.
