Skoda Kodiaq: A second rechargeable hybrid engine saving the RS version in France

The Kodiaq is already available as a PHEV with 204 hp, and now it gets an additional version with 272 hp. This version is offered either with a new high-end trim or the sporty RS model, the latter coming with a significant advantage.
Skoda’s 2026 year was marked by the introduction and launch of two electric SUVs, the smaller Epiq and the larger Peaq. The rest of its lineup isn’t neglected either, as shown by the updates to the Kodiaq.
In fact, as the Peaq enters the market, the brand is expanding the Kodiaq’s range of plug-in hybrid options, even in France. Thus, in addition to the 204 hp version, there’s now also a 272 hp option.
The power increase “results from improvements to the thermal engine and an update to the software in the drive train management unit.” This version combines a 1.5 TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 177 horsepower with an electric motor delivering 116 horsepower.
The battery has a gross capacity of 25.7 kWh (19.7 kWh net). It supports fast DC charging up to 40 kW, making it easier to recharge during stops on long trips.
Elegant or sporty
The other new feature in the range is the return of the stylish Laurin & Klement finish. It comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate with hands-free opening, electric/massaging/ventilated front seats, 360° visibility, a Canton audio system with 14 speakers, Matrix LED headlights, and an illuminated grille... The 19-inch wheels are exclusive, and the underbody is painted in the same color as the body. The price of the L & K PHEV version with 272 horsepower is 65,440 €.
The surprise is that the new PHEV engine is also available on the sporty RS model, at a lower price of 63,160 €. Equipped with 20-inch wheels and exclusive bumpers, the RS also comes with adaptive suspensions. However, it lacks 360° visibility and massaging/ventilated seats.
The RS was previously available with a 2.0 TSI engine producing 265 horsepower. This version emits at least 187 g/km of CO2, resulting in a CO2 penalty of nearly 70,000 €! It is therefore unsellable in France. The PHEV avoids the CO2 penalty... but not the weight penalty. With a curb weight of 1,944 kg according to the configurator, this would result in a weight penalty of 2,675 €, which is no longer a deal-breaker for purchase.
It should be noted that PHEVs are not available in a 7-seater version.
