Skoda Epiq available for viewing and testing. Cities across Poland, starting Monday, September 21 [list]

The Skoda Epiq is one of four compact cars (segment B) based on the MEB+ platform that have a chance to compete with Chinese rivals. The distributor already has the first vehicles and has decided to organize test drives across Poland. People will be able to try them out and determine whether they suit their needs. Downsides? We’ve heard that these will be highly equipped models, likely from the Epiq 60 First Edition 55 (51.5) kWh range, meaning they’re expensive: prices for the Skoda Epiq in this edition start at 167,450 Polish zlotys, while the cheapest version, the Epiq 40 Essence 38.5 (37.5) kWh, costs from 127,500 zlotys, or 122,900 zlotys after a discount.

As mentioned, the vehicles will be equipped with the largest battery in the range at 55 (51.5) kWh, which, even with the smallest wheels, allows for a range of over 440 WLTP units. With larger wheels, the range will be around 340-350 kilometers in urban or urban-suburban driving conditions, and about 240-250 kilometers at 120 km/h [preliminary calculations by Elektrowozu]. Such a compact car performs quite well even on longer trips, with a charging time from 10% to 80% taking only 24 minutes.

The issue is that this segment is becoming increasingly crowded. Skoda Epiq’s direct competitor seems to be the more attractive VW ID. Cross, with models featuring the same powertrain that should offer slightly better range due to their lower profile (VW ID. Polo, Cupra Raval). Hyundai has its Ioniq 3 with a larger battery, better range, and of course a higher price. In addition, there are models from China: Leapmotor B03X, soon to be followed by Leapmotor B03, Geely E2, and Chery Q. Not to mention the smaller competitors from Stellantis (Fiat Grande Panda, Opel Corsa Electric) or the cute but cramped Renault 5 E-Tech Electric…
