The regulatory body Justervesenet has launched a three-week inspection campaign at charging stations in Norway. The charging industry welcomes these measurements.

When electric vehicle drivers use fast chargers, the price is usually calculated based on how many kilowatt-hours the vehicle receives.
The meter in the charger is therefore the basis for the amount charged to the customer after fast charging.
Currently, Justervesenet is conducting a three-week inspection campaign during which they visit selected charging stations from various operators across the country.
The inspections include checking meters and instruments among other things.
Charge First
At the Recharge station at Esso Kjellerholen in Akershus, the fast chargers, among the first of their kind in the country, were connected to Justervesenets new mobile testing facility.
The equipment can simulate electric vehicle charging with up to 1000 volts and 500 amperes, and is used to verify how accurately the charger measures the energy supplied.
“For electric vehicle owners, the point is simple: When you pay for a certain amount of electricity, you should be able to trust that the measurement is correct. Here we test the charger’s measuring system against our own reference equipment,” says Even Børset Solstad.
He is the chief engineer and regional coordinator for fast charging at Justervesenets consumer testing department.
The inspections at Kjeller went smoothly.
“The results here were satisfactory and met the requirements for this type of charger,” says Solstad.
Regulators Welcome Oversight
The rapid expansion and increased use of fast charging networks in recent years mean that more and more electric vehicle owners rely on stable and reliable charging while on the road. This makes proper measurement and clear inspection procedures even more important.
– The charging infrastructure has grown enormously in a short time. It’s therefore sensible for an independent authority to ensure the equipment functions as intended. For us, it was also important to understand how oversight is carried out in practice and to ensure we are well prepared for the relevant requirements. That’s why we wholeheartedly welcome this type of oversight, says Hans-Petter Bjørkli Tryggvason, communications manager at Recharge.
He believes transparency regarding inspections is crucial for electric vehicle owners.
– Trust is built through open doors and independent checks. Electric vehicle owners should be able to trust that they are paying for the correct amount of electricity when charging. As an industry, we have everything to gain from clear requirements and oversight to ensure we comply with them, says Tryggvason.
