If you’re planning to buy the Zeekr 7X, wait: it’s coming soon with a much larger battery and improved range.

European buyers considering getting the base Zeekr 7X now have another reason to wait. Zeekr is preparing an update for its electric SUV that will increase the battery capacity from the current 75 kWh to 85 kWh, a particularly interesting improvement since it is expected to be achieved without raising the current price.

This update has been confirmed by Zeekr officials for the Chinese market and is part of the 7X’s upgrade for next year. It is scheduled to arrive in China in the fourth quarter of 2026, although all technical details and the final price have not yet been disclosed.

The Zeekr 7X is one of the most important models in the brand under the Geely group. It was first introduced in China in 2024 and later arrived in Europe as a mid-size alternative to models like the Tesla Model Y. In fact, the 7X has become one of Zeekr’s key commercial pillars: cumulative sales in China have already exceeded 136,000 units, while the brand claims global orders have surpassed 200,000 units.

New 85 kWh battery for the Zeekr 7X

The announced update will not bring about a radical design change, at least initially. The 7X will retain its exterior appearance, though Zeekr will introduce new colors for the body and interior. In terms of dimensions, the model for the European market is 4,787 meters long, 1,930 meters wide, and 1,650 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2,900 meters and a trunk volume of 539 liters. It is therefore a sizable electric SUV, competing directly with the Tesla Model Y.

Inside, the Zeekr 7X adopts a design approach closer to premium models rather than standard SUVs. It features a 16-inch central screen, 5G connectivity, and a third-generation interface, along with advanced driver assistance systems. It also offers remote access via the Zeekr app and allows certain compatible phones and watches to be used as keys.

The current entry-level version uses a rear electric motor with 310 kW (421 HP) and a 75 kWh battery. In Europe, it offers up to 480 kilometers of WLTP range and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 13 minutes.

And this is where the main innovation comes in. The next Zeekr 7X will feature an 85 kWh battery, also based on Geely’s Golden Battery technology. This capacity will serve as the base version, with the 103 kWh option being labeled “long Range,” allowing for a much smoother transition between the entry-level model and the version with greater range.

The official range and maximum charging speed of this new battery are not yet known, but it is expected that with the 85 kWh pack, the 7X will achieve an approved WLTP range of around 540 km. This is undoubtedly a much more attractive figure that will enable more comfortable travel thanks to its ultra-fast charging capability.

Zeekr’s logic seems clear: offering more battery without forcing customers to jump straight to the 103 kWh version. The 75 kWh configuration is sufficient for many users, but the 480 kilometers WLTP range announced for Europe puts the 7X at a less competitive disadvantage compared to some rivals that are rapidly increasing their capacities.

In China, the updated 7X will also fill a very interesting gap within the lineup. Currently, the 75 kWh version starts at 229,800 yuan, while higher trims with 103 kWh batteries begin at 249,800 yuan. The new 85 kWh version is intended to narrow this price difference. Zeekr has not yet officially announced the price of the new model, so the absence of a price increase should still be considered a prediction rather than confirmed information from the brand.

For European customers, the message is quite simple. If someone is considering buying a Zeekr 7X Core RWD with 75 kWh battery now, it’s worth waiting a bit to get the newer variant.

For now, we must wait for Zeekr to confirm two key points regarding Europe: when this new configuration will go on sale and what its WLTP range will be. The 85 kWh battery is already available for the next update of the 7X in China; what remains unknown is when European buyers will be able to use it.
