The new BYD Seagull is introduced, now larger and with rear-wheel drive to compete with the Geely E2

BYD has introduced the second generation of the Seagull in the Chinese market. This model, known in Europe as the Dolphin Surf, stands out as the most affordable electric option in its range. To compete with rivals such as the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan (known in Europe as the Geely E2), our subject vehicle has seen improvements across all aspects, marking a significant upgrade in class.

The new BYD Seagull measures 4205 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, and 1570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2650 mm. Its interior is designed to accommodate five passengers. Beyond its larger dimensions, one of the most notable changes is its new mechanical configuration, as it is no longer a front-wheel-drive vehicle but rather a rear-wheel-drive one.

This has resulted in some changes to the chassis, as the rear suspension with torsion beam has been replaced by a multi-link type. Additionally, it now features wider tires (205/60 R16). The engine delivers 129 HP (95 kW), while the top speed is 150 km/h. The time it takes to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h has not yet been revealed.

Due to the relocation of the engine to the rear axle, space was created in the front compartment, allowing BYD to offer a practical frunk—a feature that is uncommon in its segment. For now, BYD has not disclosed the capacity of its batteries, its certified range, or charging times, though these details are likely to be made public soon.

All indications suggest that the new Seagull will be equipped with the well-known second-generation Blade batteries. If confirmed, this would mean the vehicle is compatible with the Flash Charging 2.0 ultra-fast charging system, which allows it to go from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes—remarkable figures for a B-segment utility vehicle.

The second-generation BYD Seagull has been unveiled in a striking pale pink color, though green versions have also been spotted in recent spy photos. Its design remains consistent with other models in the range, featuring sharp headlights and bumpers whose air intakes resemble the wings of a seagull.

Pillars B and C are painted black to create a floating roof effect, while at the rear, the horizontal pillars integrated with the tail light and the diffuser should be highlighted in the same color as the rest of the body. The interior is even more conservative, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel, a minimalist dashboard, and a large horizontal touchscreen as the vehicle’s central control unit.
