Leak reveals Audi A2 e-tron: here’s the aerodynamic premium sibling to the CUPRA Born and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo

Audi’s smallest and most affordable electric car is just around the corner. Within hours, the four-ring brand will unveil the new A2 e-tron, a compact car in the C segment closely related to the CUPRA Born and Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. What sets it apart from its siblings? A body design that is much more optimized from an aerodynamic perspective (with a coefficient of 0.24).

The leaked images show that the roof will be more curved, dropping more sharply than on the CUPRA and Volkswagen models. This will require the use of two rear windows instead of one, a solution already seen in other cars with a kammback profile such as the Hyundai IONIQ 3 or the Toyota Prius, one of the leading examples of this trend.

Despite its electric nature, it features a large rectangular black grille, though the rounded corners set it apart from the angular designs of the brand’s earlier models. The front lighting units are divided into two modules: the upper one houses the daytime running lights and hazard lights, while the lower one contains the main lighting functions. This latter section is darkened to blend in with the grille and remain inconspicuous.

On the side profile, aside from the enlarged wheel arches and aerodynamically designed tires, notable is the use of fin-shaped door handles. As in the Born and ID.3 Neo models, the A-pillar features a protective glass panel, giving it an appearance somewhat similar to that of a minivan while maintaining its distinct identity.

The Audi A2 e-tron will offer 649 km of WLTP range

The rear fascia features elongated trim strips that run across the width of the trunk lid, almost touching the corporate logo. The interior is typical of Audi, with two large horizontal screens serving as digital instrument displays and a touchscreen for the infotainment system. The dashboard includes a fabric-covered section that extends to the door panels, while the central console in shelf shape houses a wireless charger for smartphones. The rear row has separate air vents.

The brand confirmed at the time that it would have four power levels: 170 HP (125 kW), 190 HP (140 kW), 231 HP (170 kW), and 326 HP (240 kW). All engines will be permanent magnet synchronous motors. The maximum range will be 649 km according to WLTP standards. The 190 HP engine will be paired with a 61 kWh capacity LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery. This version will have a fuel consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 km.

Regarding charging, the 61 kWh battery pack can reach a peak of 105 kW in DC, taking 26 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. It will also feature bidirectional charging capabilities for V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2H (Vehicle-to-Home). The version capable of around 650 km range is likely to use the well-known 79 kWh NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) battery pack seen in its predecessors.
