Swiss wholesaler Pistor heavily invests in electric trucks

The Swiss company Pistor has put its 30th electric truck into operation, an Iveco S-eWay. By 2030, half of Pistor’s trucks are set to be electric. To achieve this, the wholesaler plans to invest an additional 15 million francs, equivalent to around 16.3 million euros, according to its own statements.

Pistor supplies bakeries, restaurants, and hospitals with food, goods, and medical supplies. As early as mid-2023, electrive reported on this company based in Rothenburg, which had already electrified 10 percent of its fleet at that time. Now, 30 of the total 109 company-owned trucks are electric and in use at the Rothenburg, Chavornay, and Sennwald locations. The electric vehicle ratio has accordingly risen to 27.5 percent. It is planned to reach at least 50 percent by 2030.
CEO Patrick Lobsiger adds that his company aims to save 1,600 tons of CO2 equivalents annually by 2030 through this approach. He also said, “Expanding the electric fleet is part of Pistor’s sustainability strategy. In this strategy, not only the environment plays a role, but also economic factors. On one hand, more and more customers want a sustainable supply chain as much as possible. On the other hand, electric trucks are currently cheaper to operate and maintain than diesel trucks, which is advantageous for us overall,” according to Lobsiger.

Part of Pistor’s supply chain is also rail transport: goods ordered for western and eastern Switzerland are transported by train at night to the distribution centers in Chavornay and Sennwald. “This saves one million road kilometers or 14.5 million net ton-kilometers per year,” says the company’s headquarters in Rothenburg. Subsequent distribution to customers is then carried out by truck in the early morning.
Pistor describes itself as a leading Swiss trading and services company for the bakery and confectionery industry, the hospitality sector, and the healthcare market. In 2025, the company generated sales of 858 million francs, which is approximately 932 million euros. Founded in 1916, it currently employs around 720 staff members and operates 109 own trucks. In addition to the Iveco S-eWay, the company also uses the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand for its electric trucks. The hospitality wholesaler does not mention any other possible brands in its statement.
