Scania to supply battery packs for MacLean’s battery-electric mining vehicles
The transition to electric mobility is gaining momentum in the mining sector, where battery-electric machines are becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to their diesel-powered counterparts. Against this backdrop, Scania Industrial Batteries and the Canadian mining machinery manufacturer MacLean Engineering have formed a strategic partnership to advance the electrification of underground mining vehicles. Scania was selected as the preferred battery partner for MacLean’s battery-electric vehicle platform following a comprehensive global evaluation process. Under the agreement, Scania will supply its Core 800 battery packs to MacLean. This battery pack offers a capacity of 97 kWh at a nominal voltage of 691 volts, along with integrated thermal management and a battery management system. Scania’s battery systems are specifically designed for electric drilling rigs, loaders, and other heavy-duty vehicles in mining. According to Scania, over 2,000 of these battery systems are currently in operation worldwide in underground mines, powering drivetrains ranging from 400 to 800 volts and providing scalable energy capacities from 21 to 768 kWh. scania.com, macleanengineering.com
