SachsenEnergie opens large HPC park in Zittau
SachsenEnergie, the energy provider, has opened its second HPC charging park. In addition to Pirna, twelve fast-charging stations with a capacity of up to 400 kW are now available in Zittau as well. The new HPC charging park is designed for both private and commercial users of all vehicle classes, from cars to trucks.
The local utility company states that it expanded its network in the eastern Saxon district of Görlitz using this charging park. The charging site is located in Zittau on Äußere Weberstraße and features twelve charging points at six fast-charging stations from Alpitronic. The charging capacity per station reaches up to 400 kW. The company opened a similarly structured park in Pirna a year ago. SachsenEnergie estimates the investment amount for the Zittau site at just over two million euros.
"With our charging parks, we aim to create attractive charging options right near people’s destinations. The new charging park is located on one of the main routes leading into Zittau. Unlike fast-charging parks on highways, this location in Zittau is designed primarily for the local residents — commuters, business owners, visitors, and city dwellers. Electrified mobility must be simple, visible, and suitable for everyday use. That is exactly what the charging park from SachsenEnergie is meant to provide," explains Dr. Axel Cunow, board member of SachsenEnergie.
Important: In addition to cars, vans, commercial vehicles, and trucks can also charge electricity in Zittau. “Thanks to the spacious parking areas, separate entrances and exits, and a clearance height of 4.5 meters, […] vehicles in classes N1 and N2 as well as M1 and M2 can also be charged,” the officials explain. In other words, medium-sized trucks and small buses should fare well there, while large trucks and buses are unlikely to fit.
In general, the new charging station is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has a roof. In addition to seating, users on site also have access to an air pressure device. According to the initiators, the location has already been prepared for the future integration of a package delivery station as well as snack and beverage vending machines. SachsenEnergie is currently in discussions with potential partners regarding these services. “We want to develop our charging stations into modern mobility hubs. That’s why we are already creating the conditions for additional services that will make staying at our stations even more attractive for our customers,” explains Cunow.
Access to the chargers is available through the SachsenEnergie app or charging card, via QR code, by card payment at the terminal, or through roaming services from other providers. “A clearly visible price display at the location ensures maximum transparency,” says SachsenEnergie. For their own contract customers, the price is 45 cents per kilowatt hour, while it costs 50 cents per kilowatt hour for non-contract users.
The new charging park is considered by the company to be an important component of electric mobility in East Saxony. SachsenEnergie currently operates nearly 100 public charging points in the Görlitz district, with a total of 760 public charging points across Saxony. The new charging park in Zittau significantly expands the offering in the eastern part of the state. Meanwhile, discussions are already underway with the relevant authorities regarding another charging park in Görlitz, according to the company’s officials.
"We are also seeing a noticeably increasing demand for electric mobility in East Saxony. Reservations about electric cars are declining, while the importance of supply security and low operating costs is rising. With our investments in Zittau and potentially also in Görlitz, we aim to stay ahead of regional needs and create the conditions for a successful shift toward sustainable transportation," summarizes Cunow.
