Wheelchair-accessible Kia PV5 WAV available for order from 44,940 euros

Kia is expanding its lineup of all-electric minibuses with the PV5 Passenger, adding a wheelchair-accessible version called the PV5 WAV. This “Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle” is now available for ordering and features a side-mounted, two-stage extendable ramp that allows access directly from the roadside or sidewalk. At 4.695 meters long, the PV5 WAV is aimed at both private and commercial buyers and is offered as a passenger car through Kia’s dealership network.

When transporting a wheelchair, there is space next to it in the back seat for an accompanying person. Alternatively, the vehicle can be used as a standard five-seater with a three-seat rear bench. The right seat of the rear bench, which has a middle and right seat, can be folded up, while the left rear seat remains available for another passenger when transporting a wheelchair.

The telescopic ramp is integrated into a floor panel and can be manually extended to 1.25 or up to 1.75 meters. From street level, its slope at full length is 13 degrees; it is shallower if the sidewalk is higher. With a 15-centimeter-high curb, the first step of the ramp provides a slope of 11 degrees. The trunk behind the rear seat has a capacity of 350 liters, and the electric vehicle is approved for trailers up to 750 kilograms. The turning circle diameter is 11.0 meters.

Kia offers the PV5 WAV with battery capacities of 51.5 and 71.2 kWh. The maximum range is up to 391 kilometers according to the WLTP standard, with the smaller battery pack providing up to 282 kilometers. Both battery options can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes at a sufficiently powerful charging station.

Standard features include an electric sliding door on the right side, a navigation system, a 230-volt outlet, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a heat pump. The infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS features a 12.8-inch touchscreen and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Map and software updates can be performed over the air.

The base Plus version costs 44,940 euros with a 51.5-kWh battery and 48,940 euros with a 71.2-kWh battery pack. The PV5 WAV comes with a seven-year manufacturer’s warranty or 150,000 kilometers, as well as an eight-year battery warranty or 160,000 kilometers. Production in Korea began in July, with deliveries to German customers scheduled for November.

Kia is promoting additional wheelchair-accessible PV5 conversions, provided by AMF-Bruns and MobiTEC with a rear access opening, as well as by Schnierle with a side access door.
