Lidl’s electricity price at 0.18/kWh in France, unbelievable

Lidl charging at 0.18/kWh: while fuel prices are soaring, the cost of charging in France continues to drop.

The cost of gasoline and diesel these days is even higher than in Italy. In Italy, the price of gasoline is 2.156 euros per liter, compared to the alarming 2.340 euros for diesel. However, there is a downside in France, which lies in the increasingly low prices of charging stations. This is especially true at large retail chains. Lidl has announced that it has reduced the price of AC charging stations with a power output of up to 22 kW to 0.18 euros per kWh. At these prices, according to Automobile Propre, refueling a Renault 5 costs less than 10 euros. To take advantage of this ultra-low price, one must have the Lidl Plus mobile app, which is free and does not require a subscription. Even those who need DC charging can benefit from a low price at Lidl, at 0.29 euros per kWh—a rate that would delight many Italian drivers.
Lidl Charging at 0.18/kWh, with a Widespread Network

It’s clear that such an affordable charging price is one of the factors behind the success of electric cars in France. We account for 38% of the market share, compared to Italy’s meager 6%. And Lidl’s case isn’t isolated, as all charging stations at large retail chain brands offer incredible prices. For example, Leclerc is only a cent more expensive at 0.19/kWh since the beginning of summer. Carrefour isn’t far behind these prices either. Lidl’s strength lies not only in offering an exceptional price but also in having the most extensive network in France, with 5,700 charging terminals installed in its supermarkets’ parking lots. And this is not limited to large cities but also includes small provincial towns, where we’re still at a disadvantage when it comes to charging. It all sounds great and ideal—something we Italians can only envy, as we deal with the most expensive charging rates in Europe.
