Rheidon WB500 and AC500: flexible home charging between wallbox and energy management

Rheidon WB500 and AC500: flexible home charging between wallbox and energy management

Rheidon Tech introduces an approach to home charging that combines wallboxes with intelligent load management. WB500 and AC500 form the core pairing for integration with home energy systems. The goal is to adapt charging to various residential electrical configurations, including the ability to utilize excess solar power.

WB500, a platform in multiple configurations

The starting point is the WB500 series, a wall-mounted AC charging platform with Type 2 connectivity and capacities of 7.4 kW for single-phase use and 11 and 22 kW for three-phase use. The option to choose between different power levels allows the wallbox to be matched to the electrical system’s characteristics and the household’s charging needs.

Features included in the platform are app-based control and RFID access, while the wallbox’s body features an ultra-thin design (only 67 mm thick) and a simple plug-and-play installation.

The WB500 fits against the wall with almost no protrusion. Its integrated display, one of the largest in its category, remains perfectly readable even in direct sunlight, and when inactive it functions as a wall clock/calendar.

The main unit also has IP65 protection, allowing for both indoor and outdoor installations depending on the model and setup.

There are two distinct versions of this series that differ not in power but in their intended use case. The WB500 Standard is designed for general-purpose installations and comes standard with dynamic load management and integration with photovoltaic systems.

The WB500 Garage Edition, on the other hand, is tailored for garage environments. It shares the same technical core but features a dedicated input cable and a dock compatible with the AC300 accessory, which includes built-in lighting, making it suitable for installations specific to this space.

Further along in the company’s roadmap is the WB500 Plus, a premium model that Rheidon plans to equip with an advanced set of connectivity and energy management features.

AC500: Charging That “Follows” Home Energy Usage

The second component of the ecosystem is AC500, an intelligent load manager (smart load balancer) designed for compatible Rheidon wallbox and garden chargers. Its main function is to prevent the car charging process from becoming a problematic load on the home electrical system.

AC500 can dynamically adjust the charging power based on the household’s electricity demand. When there are other electrical loads, the system can reduce the power allocated to the car, helping to keep overall consumption within safe limits and preventing overload.

The logic becomes particularly interesting in homes equipped with photovoltaic systems: AC500 actually supports using the excess photovoltaic energy to charge vehicles. This way, any surplus energy can be directed toward electric mobility instead of necessarily being fed into the grid, depending on the home’s energy setup.

AC500 is installed in the home’s electrical panel. It connects directly to compatible charging stations from the same brand without requiring additional dedicated wiring. The device is also compatible with existing European three-phase electrical systems.

An ecosystem that can evolve over time

In the case of Rheidon, the direction indicated by the WB500 and AC500 hubs is one of charging that adapts to household conditions, allowing room for the evolution of the ecosystem. This setting is particularly important in residential settings, where photovoltaic systems, energy storage solutions, available power, and consumption habits can vary significantly from one home to another.

It is important to note that communication between AC500 and WB500 does not depend on an Internet connection. As long as electricity is available, the charging station remains under control, and load management functions continue to operate normally.

New possibilities with WB500 Plus

The upcoming product developments confirm Rheidon’s commitment to advancing its technologies. Specifically with the wallbox WB500 Plus, advanced safety features, integration with dynamic pricing, European eSIM, and a MID meter are planned for later stages.

The WB500 Plus will also comply with ISO 15118-20 standard, a requirement for Plug&Charge and next-generation bidirectional charging scenarios.

These are planned features, not characteristics that are already validated or certified.

Rheidon Moving Towards E-Charge and KEY 27

In conclusion, for the WB500 and AC500 devices, the key focus is not merely charging power but also the ability to integrate into various home energy setups. In this context, flexibility, load management, and integration with photovoltaic systems become essential aspects of the charging experience, while the ecosystem can continue to evolve over time.

For installers and industry professionals, the development of this product line will be accompanied by Rheidon Tech’s presence at some of the most important events focused on energy transition and charging.

In particular, the company will be attending E-CHARGE 2026, scheduled from October 7 to 9 at BolognaFiere, and KEY- The Energy Transition Expo 2027, from March 10 to 12 at Rimini Expo Centre.
