Renault is recalling some Captur and Symbioz hybrids because of a fire risk.

A recall campaign has been launched for certain hybrid Captur and Symbioz models. The issue stems from a manufacturing defect in the drive battery that could lead to overheating or even a fire. However, only a handful of vehicles are affected!

A manufacturing defect in the battery

According to document SR/02849/26 published on October 16, 2026, on Rappel Conso, some units of the Renault Captur hybrid and Symbioz models have an issue with their traction battery. This is not a software problem but rather a defect that occurred during assembly. More specifically, it appears to be an improper electrical connection between a conductor bar (also known as a busbar) and a relay, which could lead to abnormal heating.

This anomaly can cause the battery cells to overheat, and in the worst case, lead to a vehicle fire. The issue thus affects a critical component of the hybrid system. Unlike electric cars, these Renault vehicles have relatively small batteries. They enable energy recovery during braking and power the electric motor at certain driving stages. However, their reduced capacity does not mean they are free from risks.

Which vehicles are affected?

According to information provided to European authorities, the recall applies to Captur II and Symbioz models manufactured between December 1, 2025, and February 6, 2026. The official document also specifies the following approval references: e22007/46068433 and e22007/46068434.

But Renault made it clear that in total, five vehicles are affected: four Symbioz and one Captur.

What should owners do?

Drivers who own a Captur or the corresponding Symbioz model will receive a registered letter. The repair at the dealership will take 4 hours and 30 minutes, with a replacement vehicle provided.

We’re almost surprised by the discrepancy between the number of models actually recalled and what’s listed on the government’s official website, as such communications might suggest a larger-scale recall.
