Renault is refining the lineup of the R5 E-Tech electric model.
Since its launch, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric has achieved undeniable success. It currently leads sales of electric vehicles in France and ranks third in Europe. However, facing increasing competition in its segment, Renault has decided to refine the R5 lineup. The most significant changes affect the entry-level version, addressing certain previously critical flaws. The R5 Five now features a new engine and battery, and most importantly, it supports fast charging. Additionally, thanks to technical and aerodynamic optimizations, all R5 versions enjoy improved range. New body color options such as Rouge Flamme have also been added to the catalog. Finally, new features are being incorporated into various versions to simplify customers’ lives.
A more competitive entry-level version
When the R5 was launched, Renault kept its promise of offering a version priced below 25,000 euros. However, to achieve this price point, the brand used certain shortcuts. As a result, the R5 Five lacked features considered essential for a modern electric car. Consequently, few customers opted for this entry-level version. Renault decided to address this by making numerous improvements to the R5 Five. It now features a new 80 kW (110 hp) engine and a new 36.5 kWh LFP battery. Most importantly, it is equipped with an 80 kW DC charger that allows use of fast charging stations. This finally makes it a truly attractive option, especially since its price remains below 25,000 euros. On top of that, it qualifies for various purchase incentives.
Improved autonomy in all versions
The improvements in the R5 E-Tech electric model apply not only to the entry-level version. As a result, all versions see increased range. The improvement isn’t as significant as that seen in the Mégane with its new 67 kWh LFP battery. Nevertheless, it is notable, especially for versions equipped with the 52 kWh comfort battery. Combined with a 110 kW (150 hp) motor, this battery now provides up to 430 km of range. This 20 km increase is thanks to technical and aerodynamic optimizations. Renault first focused on optimizing the battery’s electronics. The brand also improved aerodynamics by refining the underbody and equipping the R5 with new mirrors. The improvements are more modest for versions fitted with the 40 kWh urban range battery. Their WLTP range only increases to 315 km, up from 312 km before.

New body color options available
In addition to improvements on the R5 Five and advancements in range, the lineup now features new body color options. The Rouge Flamme color is now available across all trims from Five to Iconic Cinq. Renault also offers the Gris Schiste Métallisé color for trims from Evolution to Roland-Garros. Furthermore, new customization options are available for roof decorations, ranging from Star Black to Red Alu or Warm Titanium roof strips. New Vibrant5 and Hyper5 roof and wing decals have also been added to the configurator. On Techno and Iconic Cinq trims, wheels can now be specified in Gold as an option. Lastly, the interior upholstery for the Iconic trim is now available in indigo blue instead of indigo yellow.
New features to simplify customers’ lives
On top of that, Renault adds new features to the R5 E-Tech electric lineup. These useful additions are designed to simplify customers’ lives. Inside, the R5 now comes equipped with an e-call emergency call system compatible with 4G phone networks. It also features a new induction smartphone charger that provides higher charging power, allowing the battery to reach 50% capacity in one hour without overheating. Additionally, similar to other Renault models such as the new Clio, the R5 series benefits from the Smart driving mode. This mode automatically switches between different settings (Eco, Comfort, Sport), enabling drivers to instantly enjoy the responsiveness of Sport mode or save energy by switching to Eco mode whenever driving speeds down. Finally, there’s Gemini, Go’s AI assistant.
