Renault upgrades the Megane electric with an LFP battery, 500 km range, faster charging, and without raising the price

The electric Renault Megane E-Tech enters the new model year with updates focused on the most important aspects of an electric car: efficiency, range, and fast charging. Renault has also simplified the lineup to make it easier to understand, with fewer mechanical and equipment combinations.

The most significant change is in the battery, which now uses LFP chemistry, allowing improved performance without an increase in the starting price. This keeps the Renault in its brand’s compact segment with a much more balanced offering.

A 67 kWh LFP battery and up to 501 kilometers of range

The electric motor delivers 160 kW (218 HP) and 300 Nm of torque, figures available in both versions, indicating changes to this component as the previous version reached 220 HP. Renault includes a 11 kW bidirectional AC charger as standard, while customers who need to reduce AC charging times can opt for a 22 kW charger.

The electric Renault Megane E-Tech features a 67 kWh LFP battery, a chemistry that allows Renault to offer a more affordable solution while maintaining greater durability. The brand has also chosen to drastically simplify its lineup, offering just one battery type, one propulsion system, and two trim levels.

Thanks to this battery, the Megane achieves 501 kilometers of range according to the WLTP cycle. This represents an increase of 33 kilometers compared to the previous battery pack.

The fast charging capability has also improved. The Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicle takes approximately 24 minutes to go from 15% to 80% charge, which represents a 25% improvement over the current model. The battery also features pre-conditioning, a function that is particularly useful before reaching a fast charging station.

Inside, Renault retains one of the key features of the Megane E-Tech electric vehicle: the OpenR-Link multimedia system with a 12-inch screen and integrated Google services, including the advanced Gemini system. All versions also come equipped with a heat pump, battery pre-conditioning, and a ventilated wireless charger for Qi2-compatible smartphones.

The Techno trim includes Google Maps with route planning for electric cars, a digital rear-view camera, a heated steering wheel, regenerative braking, and one-pedal driving. It comes standard with new 19-inch tires, while 20-inch tires are available as an option, and it retains a class-leading trunk space of up to 440 liters.

The optional features include power-adjustable seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, 20-inch alloy wheels, a 22 kW AC charger, heated seats, and a package of driving assistance systems.

Above that is the Esprit Alpine, which adds a specific exterior design and 20-inch alloy wheels. In this case, the standard equipment includes power seats with massage function—hopefully with more force than the current version where the pressure is barely noticeable—as well as a Harman Kardon sound system and a more comprehensive set of assistants, including Active Driving Assistant with emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, and Easy Parking Assistant.

The exterior options include seven colors, among them Satin Slate Blue. Renault also retains the OpenR-Link technology platform, which allows use of Google Maps, access to over 100 apps via Google Play, and included Internet connectivity for three years.

As for the chassis, Renault continues to focus on tuning that aims to combine agility and comfort, along with precise steering and dynamic handling. The range also includes various safety and driving assistance systems depending on the selected trim level.

And here is one of the most interesting aspects of this update: Renault has not taken advantage of the improved battery and equipment to raise prices. The electric Megane E-Tech Techno 220 Comfort Range starts at around 34,990 euros in its first markets, while the Esprit Alpine 220 Comfort Range costs 37,990 euros.

Thus, the Renault Megane E-Tech enters the new model year with a much simpler lineup and a combination that appears quite more competitive on paper: 67 kWh, LFP chemistry, 218 horsepower, up to 494 kilometers of WLTP range, and fast charging from 15% to 80% in about 24 minutes, all while maintaining an entry price of 34,990 euros.
