Electric car charging: Lidl announces the lowest price in the market

Lidl is making a big move in electric vehicle charging by offering a price of 18 cents per kWh.

As fuel prices continue to hit record highs, major retailers are engaging in a price war in the field of electric vehicle charging.

Following Leclerc and Carrefour, it’s now Lidl’s turn to make a bold move by promising “the lowest price on the market” at 18 cents per kWh. However, like its competitors, this aggressive offer applies only to AC charging stations up to 22 kW. This can allow an electric Renault 5 to be fully charged for less than 10 euros.

Lidl now falls below Leclerc, which had reduced the price of this type of charger to 19 cents at the beginning of summer. Note that to take advantage of it, you need to use the Lidl Plus mobile app, but it’s free and doesn’t require a subscription.

In addition to the attractive price, Lidl highlights its extensive network, offering the largest network in France with 5,700 chargers installed in the parking lots of its supermarkets. The advantage is that these chargers are available both in urban and rural areas. With a price of 18 cents per kWh, it’s enough to convince drivers who don’t have home charging options to switch to electric vehicles.

For fast DC charging, Lidl charges 0.29 euros per kWh, one of the most competitive rates on the market.
