Rover unveiled as an electric car, launch in the UK

The Range Rover is first available in the UK with a purely electric powertrain. The Range Rover Electric uses two permanently excited electric motors, each delivering 260 kW/356 hp. Together they provide up to 405 kW/550 hp and 850 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) is claimed to take as little as 4.3 seconds.
The usable capacity of the lithium-ion battery is 118.5 kWh. It consists of 344 prismatic cells and operates with an 800-volt architecture. The WLTP range is stated at up to 372 miles (599 km), while the actual range is up to 333 miles or 536 kilometers. At a 350-kW DC fast charging station, the battery charge can go from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes. According to WLTP, up to 220 kilometers of range can be added in ten minutes via DC charging.
The vehicle uses Intelligent Driveline Dynamics and Integrated Traction Management to manage power distribution. The latter adjusts the engine speed within 50 milliseconds and is designed to control slip up to 100 times faster than a comparable gasoline-powered vehicle. In Single-Pedal Mode, the Range Rover Electric can climb gradients of up to 33 degrees from a standstill and ascend slopes of up to 45 degrees while in motion. Its wheelbase depth is up to 900 millimeters.
The electric version retains the familiar Range Rover design, featuring an aerodynamically optimized radiator grille, matching wheels, and a modified underbody. A lower center of gravity and dual-chamber air suspension are intended to enhance driving dynamics.
The Range Rover Electric is the result of a decade of thoughtful engineering and technological advancement, setting new standards for the “original luxury SUV.” The electric powertrain complements the Range Rover’s exquisite refinement and enhances the sense of peace and sanctuary for its occupants, says Managing Director Martin Limpert.
“At the same time, the versatility of the Range Rover remains intact thanks to the combination of a powerful, adaptable electric powertrain and advanced suspension technologies that make every Range Rover unique, sophisticated, and desirable. We have even pushed our testing and development programs further than originally planned to ensure that the Range Rover Electric truly is the most advanced Range Rover ever created.”
According to the manufacturer, the Range Rover Electric has covered over 1.5 million kilometers and undergone more than 250,000 hours of virtual and physical testing. It was tested in conditions such as minus 40 degrees Celsius in Arjeplog, Sweden, the heat of Dubai’s desert, and the terrain at JLR’s Eastnor Castle in the UK. Over 300 patent applications have been filed for this electric vehicle, including technologies related to batteries, engines, and heat management.
The ThermAssist system is designed to optimize range, charging speed, battery life, and performance in extreme temperatures. It claims to provide up to an additional 25 miles (40 km) of range and reduce heating energy consumption by 40 percent. The battery was tested in a new JLR laboratory, exposed to conditions such as vibrations, shocks, and temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 90 degrees Celsius. Each Range Rover Electric also features a “Battery Digital Twin” with over 900 diagnostic data points and supports software updates via cellular networks.

Through the new Range Rover app, users can activate features such as interior cleaning or a heated steering wheel, and check the locking status, location, battery level, and estimated range. They can also select and schedule charging for a connected vehicle. In Europe, customers have access to over one million public charging stations. Optionally, a Range Rover charger for home use is also available.
Orders for the Range Rover Electric are now being accepted in the UK upon launch. It is available in short and long wheelbase versions, along with SE, HSE, Autobiography, SV, SV Ultra, and SV Black trims. A First Edition is offered in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, or Varesine Blue, complete with Light Cloud Ultrafabrics PU upholstery and Kvadrat interior design. The starting price is 154,070 pounds, which is approximately 180,000 euros. For comparison, the conventional Range Rover costs at least around 146,000 euros in this country.
