They wanted to democratize electric mobility and they succeeded: with 150,000 orders, Volkswagen Group has achieved a real breakthrough.

Volkswagen Group once again confirms the strong commercial success of its new generation of affordable electric cars. The so-called “Electric Urban Car Family,” consisting of the Volkswagen ID. Polo, CUPRA Raval, Škoda Epiq, and Volkswagen ID. Cross, has already received nearly 150,000 orders in Europe.
The official announcement was made at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, where these four vehicles were displayed together for the first time. For the German manufacturer, these results support its focus on developing smaller electric cars at more accessible prices, a segment where the European market is undergoing significant transformation. It’s also worth noting that these four models are produced in two Spanish factories.

Almost 150,000 orders for Volkswagen’s new electric vehicles, CUPRA and Škoda models
Volkswagen Group’s new line of urban electric vehicles consists of four models developed using the same architecture, the MEB+ platform. Two of them, the Volkswagen ID. Polo and the CUPRA Raval, feature utility vehicle body styles, while the Škoda Epiq and the Volkswagen ID. Cross adopt SUV formats. Although they share many components, each model has its own design, tuning, and commercial focus, ensuring no overlap among them.
The most significant fact is that, together, the four vehicles have received nearly 150,000 orders before deliveries even began. Volkswagen has not provided a breakdown by model, so it remains unknown which one has the highest demand. Nor has it specified how reservations are distributed across different European markets. In any case, the company believes this response confirms consumers’ interest in more affordable electric cars suited for everyday use.

Volkswagen executives celebrate the success of their strategy
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, has emphasized the importance of these results for the manufacturer’s electrification strategy. The executive believes that the new family of models demonstrates it is possible to develop competitive electric vehicles together while maintaining each brand’s distinct characteristics.
"We develop jointly where scale economies and speed are decisive, while also creating independent products with a clear identity for each brand," explained Schäfer. He also highlighted the role of Spanish factories, noting that the plants in Martorell and Pamplona form a strong industrial hub for producing these four vehicles.
For the executive, the nearly 150,000 orders received confirm that the chosen approach is the right one. Schäfer has emphasized that this family of electric vehicles represents much more than just four models, as it demonstrates how the group can combine competitiveness, industrial capacity, and affordable electric mobility developed and manufactured in Europe. His goal is to apply this strategy to the mass market, where price remains one of the key factors for buyers.

Spain manufactures the 4 electric vehicles and receives a $10 billion investment
But in reality, the significance of this new family of vehicles goes beyond their commercial performance. The CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo are manufactured at the Martorell plant in Barcelona, while the Škoda Epiq and Volkswagen ID. Cross come from facilities in Pamplona, Navarra. In this way, Spain becomes the production hub for these four models destined for various European markets.
The project is part of a 10 billion euro investment program in Spain, driven by SEAT & CUPRA, the Brand Group Core, PowerCo, and the partners of the Future Fast Forward initiative. The initiatives include PowerCo’s battery cell factory in Sagunto, Valencia, as well as an additional 300 million euro investment for the battery system assembly plant in Martorell. SEAT & CUPRA has allocated 3 billion euros to its industrial transformation toward electric mobility.
