Quehenberger doubles its fleet of electric trucks

Austrian logistics company Quehenberger continues to expand its fleet of electric trucks. By the end of 2026, the company, which serves retailers such as dm, plans to nearly double the number of its own electric trucks from 13 to 24, including the development of the necessary charging infrastructure.

Quehenberger Logistics is among the pioneers of fully electric freight transport in Austria: As early as 2018, the company was one of the pilot customers for the MAN eTGM, an electric 26-ton truck for distribution use that was later produced in limited series.

Since then, a lot has changed – and Quehenberger now operates the largest known electric fleet in the dm drugstore chain. After introducing the first three electric trucks for its customers in 2024, Quehenberger has been supplying around 100 dm stores in Vienna with ten electric trucks each since spring, eliminating emissions during deliveries.

The electric fleet of Quehenberger is set to grow further by the end of the year, though the company based in Straßwalchen near Salzburg has not revealed which customers the new electric trucks are intended for. In any case, the number of electric trucks is expected to rise from 13 to 24 by the end of 2026, including the expansion of necessary charging infrastructure. According to the company, this will mean that 60 percent of Austria’s company-owned fleet will be electric in the future. After that, the electric fleet is planned to triple again within two years, as another 50 electric trucks are set to be added.

"We are convinced that electric mobility is a crucial part of the future of freight transportation," says Christian Fürstaller, CEO of Quehenberger Logistics. "That’s why we consistently expand our electric fleet and charging infrastructure." Quehenberger’s acquisition of its first electric truck in 2018 is now paying off: "Since we have been involved from the start, we understand the practical requirements. We pass this expertise directly on to our customers," adds Fürstaller.

According to Quehenberger, successful use of electric trucks depends on deploying them strategically and intelligently. They are particularly suitable for urban distribution, routes that can be planned in advance, and areas with optimal charging infrastructure.

"E-mobility in freight transport doesn’t work on a one-size-fits-all basis," emphasizes Andreas Letsch, Managing Director at Quehenberger Logistics. "The key lies in precise analysis of usage patterns, strategic route planning, and intelligent integration into existing logistics processes. That’s where our expertise lies."

The company does not disclose which electric truck models Quehenberger is currently using or has recently acquired. However, it is known from past reports that several units of Volvo’s FM Electric have been in use. The current press photo accompanying the news (see above) also shows a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600.
