The Leapmotor T03 has captured our market with a perfect blend of city-friendly size and competitive pricing (made even more attractive by incentives in recent months).
Thus, this Chinese city car — priced at 18,900 euros — has quickly gained popularity in major Italian cities. The secret also lies in its particularly simple lineup, consisting of just one engine option.
Leapmotor T03, the engine
The T03 uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor capable of producing 95 horsepower and 158 Nm of maximum torque.
The power is more than sufficient for the intended use of the T03, which is primarily urban commuting. Leapmotor claims a 0 to 50 km/h acceleration time of about 5 seconds, and the vehicle features multiple driving modes to adjust the system’s response to different usage conditions.

The powertrain is developed in-house by the Chinese manufacturer and integrates the engine, power electronics, and control systems into a compact configuration.
A 37.3 kWh battery powers the engine. This is what enables the compact Leapmotor to achieve 265 km of range in the combined WLTP cycle, while this figure rises to 395 km in the urban cycle.
The declared electric consumption is 16.3 kWh/100 km in the combined cycle. As is typical for WLTP figures, the actual range can vary depending on temperature, speed, driving style, load, and air conditioning usage.
The T03 can be charged using both alternating current and direct current. The fast DC charging reaches up to 48 kW, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in about 36 minutes.
