The next Mercedes-AMG will be an electric SUV

Mercedes-AMG continues to invest in models with internal combustion engines, but electric vehicles are not being neglected. The next SUV is an example of this.

“There’s no such thing as two without three,” as the saying goes. And although Mercedes-AMG is unaware of Portuguese proverbs, it is preparing to follow this adage closely.

The German brand continues to develop models with internal combustion engines, but the number of electric vehicles bearing the AMG badge is also growing. The first was the controversial all-electric AMG GT 4-door, followed by the new CLA 45 4MATIC+, which is already available for ordering in Portugal.

Now, we are just a few weeks away from learning about the third Mercedes-AMG vehicle powered entirely by electricity. The name and technical specifications are still unknown, but it’s only a matter of time. According to rumors, the new Mercedes-AMG electric SUV is set to be unveiled on October 17th.

What else is known?

The arrival of an electric SUV in the Mercedes-AMG lineup isn’t entirely new news. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer had already announced plans for such a model in November 2024, describing it as a large-scale “super-SUV.”

It will be the second model to use the new AMG.EA electric platform, developed specifically for AMG’s high-performance models. This means the model was designed with the demands of high-performance vehicles in mind, rather than being adapted from an existing architecture.

The production will be handled by the factory in Sindelfingen, Germany, a facility that Mercedes-Benz has already adapted for electric vehicle manufacturing. This decision marks a shift from the AMG models, which are traditionally produced in Affalterbach.

The technical specifications remain undisclosed, but as a reference, AMG’s electric “super-sedan,” the GT 4-door, is available with two or three electric motors.

Depending on the version, it offers 400 kW (544 hp), 600 kW (816 hp), or 860 kW (1,169 hp). The battery always has a capacity of 106 kWh and allows the least powerful version to travel over 800 km between charges.

According to the newspaper Tarantas, Mercedes-AMG’s new electric SUV will be unveiled on October 17th, during The 140 Festival at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

The date has not yet been confirmed by Mercedes-AMG, but even if it is, don’t expect it to arrive at dealerships before 2027.
