Production resumes: Opel Eisenach raises electric vehicle ratio

The Opel plant in Eisenach has resumed regular operations following several interruptions since early October. Through optimization measures, the share of electric vehicles produced at the plant is set to increase gradually from around 50 percent to 60 to 70 percent by the end of the year.

After completing weeks of renovation work, the Opel plant in Eisenach has returned to normal operations. Production was halted on certain days since early October to carry out necessary maintenance and strategically optimize processes, so that more electric cars can be produced there in the future, according to a company spokesperson.
The facility benefits from the extensive modernizations carried out in recent years. The parent company Stellantis equipped the plant with investments of around 130 million euros to enable production on a flexible multi-energy platform.
This allows various powertrain options for the Opel Grandland — from battery-electric models to plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids — to be manufactured on the same production line. As a result of this transformation, the Eisenach site has moved beyond relying solely on internal combustion engines and can adjust production volumes dynamically to meet demand.
Currently, around 1,100 employees work in the Eisenach plant on a two-shift basis. The focus on electric mobility is evident in the current production numbers: approximately half of the vehicles manufactured have electric powertrains. According to a company spokesperson, this proportion is set to rise gradually to 60 to 70 percent by the end of 2026.
