Will Porsche Taycan production end in 2030? [WiWo] Sales have been minimal in recent years

The weekly magazine WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) has obtained information suggesting that the Porsche Taycan will be produced only until the end of 2030. Sales of the vehicle were strong at first and grew steadily, but recently dropped to almost rock bottom. The withdrawal of the Audi e-tron GT, Taycan’s sibling model, from certain markets did not help improve the project’s profitability. It is unclear whether the model will have a direct successor, especially since the market favors SUVs, and Porsche already has two electric vehicles in this segment.

The Porsche Taycan was the best-selling model in 2023, with around 41,000 units delivered to buyers. By 2025, only 16,000 Taycans had been sold, and about 6,000 of these vehicles changed owners in the first half of 2026. Although WiWo’s report has not been officially confirmed, and Porsche’s CEO even stated that the Taycan definitely will not be discontinued “in the near future,” sales of its counterpart model were halted in China, while the United States stopped offering the station wagon version (Turismo).

The Porsche Taycan demonstrated that the German manufacturer can compete with Tesla, and may even be better than it, but all this came at a high cost. The fact that the J1 platform was not applied to cheaper electric vehicles suggests it was likely impossible to do so. Additionally, Porsche boldly entered the market with less desirable body styles—sedans and wagons, “the ones no one wants”—by completely abandoning the most sought-after format, namely the SUV. A Taycan SUV would have had a better chance of generating interest—45,367 electric Macans were sold in 2025, more than Taycans in its best year!

Today, the Porsche Taycan is a poor choice when purchasing a new one. Even on the used market, it’s advisable to consider another model if we’re interested in the Performance category (e.g., Tesla Model S Plaid, Hyundai Ioniq 6N, etc.). The car loses value dramatically, often being sold for less than half of its original price after two to three years. The cheapest undamaged models from 2021–2023 on Otomoto cost between 200,000 and 300,000 złoty, while a well-maintained vehicle with Porsche Approved extended warranty can be found for less than 400,000 złoty (source). It’s worth considering it at least due to the cost of regular maintenance.
