Fer plants: pros and cons. They will “confront” each other at the conference “Climate Crisis and Energy Transition,” organized by Energia per l’Italia and Legambiente Miranese tomorrow (September 17) in Mirano, in the province of Venice. It is an event featuring scientific researchers and politicians discussing climate change. The conference is unique because it includes Jonatan Montanariello, a regional councilor from Veneto who is often at the forefront of opposing plants dedicated to renewable energy.

How to address the energy transition

The event aims to make scientific evidence on the climate crisis and prospects for energy transition accessible to the public, while providing a public discussion among climate experts, energy specialists, and institutional representatives. It is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, in the Nella and Paolo Errera Conference Hall on the first floor of Villa Errera in Mirano, in the province of Venice.

The evening begins with a presentation by Professor Carlo Barbante, a full professor at the University Ca’ Foscari Venezia, who is a chemist, climatologist, and glaciologist as well as the founder of the Cnr Institute of Polar Sciences. Barbante will discuss: how climate history is reconstructed through ice core analysis; scientific evidence on climate change; the results of polar and alpine expeditions, and the role of international research. He is also the president of the International Center for Study and Research on Climate Change, Ccimatici.

It is followed by a discussion on how to address the energy transition, featuring:

Stefano Fracasso from Energia per l’Italia, an expert in energy and environment, vice president of the Venetian multiutility Magis, a lecturer in biology and chemistry, and author of the book “O sole mio. Perché gli scettici non fermeranno l’era delle rinnovabili”.

Jonatan Montanariello, a regional councilor from Veneto who actively supports the causes of local administrators and communities against FER projects, moderates the discussion with Cesare Agnello from Energia per l’Italia.

The discussion, as indicated by the speakers’ backgrounds, contrasts different views on renewables, territory, local communities, and energy policies. Most importantly, it refutes those who claim that proponents of renewables are “allergic” to debate: this meeting proves exactly the opposite. The same cannot often be said of many committees opposed to renewables.
