First image of the final Citroën 2CV: these are the changes from the prototype

The star of the recent 2026 Paris Motor Show was undoubtedly the revived Citroën 2CV. The brand brought the 2CV Concept to the event, a prototype that previews the return of this legendary classic by 2028. According to the brand’s officials, the design of this show car is approximately 90% identical to that of the final model.

As part of the launch process for the new 2CV, Amazon Prime has released a documentary titled “La légende revient” showing the design process of the concept car. In addition to showcasing some designs that were rejected, the film also includes images of what appears to be a clay model with a design much closer to production-ready.

The Worldscoop forum has discussed screenshots showing this concept in considerable detail. Although it resembles the 2CV Concept, it features several key modifications ahead of its production release. First, the hood is wider and lacks ribs, while the fenders are less pronounced.

The lighting units still aren’t integrated into the body, but they have been moved to the edges. The door handles are more conventional compared to those on the concept car, which used chrome knobs similar to those on the classic model. Another notable change is the more curved windshield; additionally, the wipers will be concealed at their base rather than being visible.

The new Citroën 2CV will be launched in 2028 with a target price of around 15,000 euros.

All these changes give the 2CV a less “toy-like” appearance without sacrificing its distinct personality, as it remains very similar to the prototype. Features such as bumpers that are not fully integrated and a turn signal on the C-pillar are retained. Based on the clay model, it appears the rear windows will be fixed or compass-style, which is quite common in the A-segment (urban) cars.

The new Citroën 2CV is being developed under Stellantis’ E-Car project. The Franco-Italian-American group is collaborating with Chinese manufacturer Leapmotor to develop a new electric platform that will power not only our main vehicle but also the future FIAT Koala, as well as the second-generation Leapmotor T03. Additionally, Opel is expected to have its own E-Car as well.

All of them will be produced at Stellantis’ plant in Pomigliano d’Arco (Naples, Italy). The target price for the new Citroën 2CV is around 15,000 euros before subsidies. So far, few technical specifications have been revealed: it is known that the prototype measures 3.76 meters in length, and the final model will weigh approximately 1,000 kg; additionally, Citroën officials have confirmed that the van version shown in Paris will also go into production.
