First look at the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan ahead of its upcoming launch

For years, the ID.4 has been Volkswagen’s best-selling electric car globally. This SUV falls between the C (compact) and D (mid-size) segments and is sold in diverse regions such as China, Europe, and North America. Having been introduced in 2020, it is a relatively old model, which is why the brand is preparing a major update set to release this year.

Following the example of the ID.3 Neo, the revamped ID.4 will adopt the company’s new Pure Positive design language. Some media outlets have already had the chance to test the new model, and although its body is covered in camouflage, it can be seen that its aesthetic will be quite similar to that of the recently unveiled ID. Cross, the smallest electric SUV in the lineup.

Firstly, the optical groups will be divided into two sections by an LED bar that runs across the front from side to side. The upper section of the headlights will house the daytime running lights and turn signals, while the lower section will handle the main lighting functions. The rounded shapes of the previous model will give way to more robust lines.

There will also be changes on the side profile, particularly at the third window and the C pillar. The rear end will once again resemble that of the ID. Cross, featuring a horizontal strip surrounding the taillights, which will consist of two rectangular modules. The bumpers will also be redesigned. In short, this is not a minor facelift but rather a substantial restyling.

A similar trend is seen inside the cabin, which will feature some of the changes introduced in the ID.3 Neo: a two-spoke steering wheel with square-shaped rings and buttons, four individual switches for the windows replacing the previous control, physical controls for the climate system, and so on. The digital instrument cluster will be larger, while the touchscreen of the infotainment system will also increase in size.

Although not officially confirmed by the brand yet, everything suggests this restyling will come with a name change: following the company’s new naming convention, the model will be called ID. Tiguan instead of ID.4. With this move, Volkswagen aims to align its electric and conventional model lines.

We can also expect some technical improvements, though the extent of these remains unknown for now. It is likely that its maximum range will be around 600 km WLTP, making it an electric car suitable for long-distance travel. Its electrical architecture will still be 400 volts, although its charging times will be optimized.
