For just over 20,000 € and made in Spain: Volkswagen now sells its cheapest and most practical electric SUV

Volkswagen Group’s push to produce an urban, practical, and affordable electric SUV is unprecedented in the history of this German manufacturer. Best of all, Spain is at the heart of its production. In Martorell, Barcelona, the CUPRA Raval — read our review — and the ID. Polo are already being manufactured, while in Landaben, Navarra, the Skoda Epic — which we’ve also tested — and the new Volkswagen ID.Cross are produced there, with the latter already available for purchase starting at just over 20,000 €.
This is an electric SUV that measures 4.13 meters in length, 1.79 meters in width, and 1.58 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.601 meters. Its overall design is very similar to its practical sibling, the Skoda Epiq, while still retaining the distinctive features of Volkswagen’s latest models.

Practical, spacious, and cheap: Volkswagen’s latest SUV made in Spain
And if we say it’s practical, it’s not only because of its spacious interior suitable for four tall adults; it’s especially so due to its enormous trunk—475 L for its size—and an additional 22 L of storage space under the front hood—perfect for carrying cables.
Beyond that, this affordable SUV manufactured in Landaben—a plant even praised by Volkswagen’s CEO—is also practical in design. As we’ve already seen with its CUPRA and Skoda counterparts, this ID.Cross delivers excellent performance in urban areas, while also offering more than sufficient handling, stability, and comfort for long trips.
For example, it’s already available in Spain with engines producing 116 HP, 136 HP, and even 211 HP. It also comes with two battery options: one LFP type with 37 kW capacity and another NMC type with 52 kWh capacity, offering ranges of up to 324 km and 436 km respectively. Both can be charged via AC at 11 kW, while the LFP battery supports 90 kW charging at DC—reaching 80% charge in 27 minutes—and the NMC battery supports 105 kW charging, cutting that time to 24 minutes.

Well-equipped starting at 20,500 €
The good news is that now, for just over 20,000 euros—specifically 20,500 euros including discounts and financing incentives—Volkswagen is already selling the cheapest ID.Cross available: one with a 116 HP engine, a 37 kWh battery, and a basic trim level called Match, yet it comes equipped with everything you might need.

So for those 20,000 euros, this affordable Volkswagen electric SUV comes equipped with LED headlights and taillights, roof rails, heated electric mirrors, rain sensors and lights, a 12.9” central display — along with a 10.25” digital instrument cluster — Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, climate control, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.
That said, as an interesting fact — and to keep the price as low as possible — it should be noted that this Volkswagen electric SUV will not come with alloy wheels in its 20,000 euro version. Instead, it features 17” steel wheels that aren’t ugly and resemble alloy ones.
What if you don’t want to finance it? Well, you’ll have to pay 28,685 euros instead of just over 20,000 euros. Note that this price does not include the subsidies from Plan Auto+.
