Police stop mobile sofa

In the United States, police in the city of Charlotte encountered a moving sofa set during nighttime traffic. The upholstered furniture was mounted on two electric scooters. It is not known how drivable the setup was. However, the two drivers carrying the motorized sofa had to continue on foot afterward.

The police in Charlotte, in the U.S. state of North Carolina, have shared a unique incident. On Instagram, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department posted a photo of a vehicle not approved for public road use — with the caption: “Well, that was truly a first… Our officers encountered a very unusual situation this weekend when they stopped two men driving down S. Tryon Street on a couch.”

"Yes, read that right—a real sofa," the police added later. Even the officers were astonished. Apparently, the creative builders attached the two-seater sofa to the two electric scooters, creating a four-wheeled work of art. How was this contraption balanced and controlled? Likely only through precise synchronized steering while moving. That it managed to draw the police’s attention at least indicates limited driving capability.

"While we appreciate creativity, we still need to remind everyone: no matter what you use to 'drive,' please always think about safety first," the police commented in their Instagram post. They added, "Ask yourself: If this were on a road with real cars, would the shock of seeing something like this on the road cause other drivers to lose focus and drive carelessly? If the answer is even slightly 'yes,' you might want to reconsider your plan to drive it. In general, it's best to leave mobile furniture displays to IKEA."
