Polestar reveals a preview of the new Polestar 2 and Polestar 7 with the Formula 2030 prototype
Polestar has released an initial preview of the Formula 2030 prototype. This vehicle is not intended to be a mere show car but rather to showcase the design language that will be used in future second-generation Polestar 2 models and the Polestar 7, two key vehicles for the Swedish brand set to arrive in 2027 and 2028 respectively. So far, only one image of the vehicle has been shown.
The company states that this concept car was developed as part of a broader 2030 strategy aimed at driving business growth and achieving profitability. Its aesthetic was created by a design team led by Philipp Römers, who built upon the brand’s existing design language, a continuity evident in this first official preview.
It can be seen that while characteristic features such as the symmetrical double L-shaped light signature remain, the optical groups are much larger than those in the brand’s current models. The prototype does not appear to have an SUV body style; based on its proportions, it seems to be a sedan or, at the very least, a sports car.
"The design and Polestar brand are already so solid that it was clear we needed a bold evolution, not a revolution, of what existed before. Formula 2030 achieves this by showing our future while respecting elements that define the brand, such as its iconic Dual Blade headlights, ensuring it remains recognizable as a Polestar with a strong and distinct identity," says Römers, head of design at the Scandinavian manufacturer.
The Polestar Formula 2030 will be unveiled later this year
The Polestar Formula 2030 will be shown to investors, distributors, and a select group of VIP customers during an event taking place soon at The Cube, Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg. Its public debut will not occur until the end of the year, coinciding with the press launch of the new Polestar 4 SUV, which was released just a few days ago.
Currently, Polestar is focusing its efforts on the European market after exiting China and the United States. The future Polestar 7 will play a key role in its expansion plans, as it will compete in the most important sales category on the old continent: the C-SUV segment.
The Polestar 2 will abandon the SUV styling of its current model to make way for its new sibling, transforming into a full-fledged sedan. With this vehicle, Polestar aims to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Tesla Model 3, as well as possibly the BMW i3 and Mercedes-Benz Class C, which are similar in size but offer a higher price point and better performance.
