Polestar: evolution, not revolution

Polestar (Geely Holding Group) enters the second half of the decade with a bold stylistic manifesto. It’s called “Formula 2030” – a new concept vehicle shown behind closed doors at the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg. It is intended not only to preview future models but also to serve as the visual foundation for a strategy aimed at making the brand profitable by 2030. As the manufacturer emphasizes, this represents “a bold step forward, not a revolution,” in line with the philosophy of the new head of design, Philipp Römer.

The brand has not yet revealed the full design of the concept, but the photos released show a low-slung, wide vehicle with a distinctly sporty silhouette. The aggressive front end, muscular hood vents, and the characteristic vertical “wiper” element reminiscent of motorsport stand out. However, the most recognizable feature remains the Dual Blade lighting motif, which Römers describes as “an element that defines the brand’s identity.”

Polestar already has a very strong identity, so we needed a bold evolution rather than a revolution,” explains Römers. “Formula 2030 shows our future while retaining key elements such as the dual headlights, ensuring the car remains instantly recognizable as Polestar,” he adds.

The concept also shows clear influences from aerodynamics, including a possible S-duct to direct air through the front fascia, wide wheelbase, and a lowered roof line. This signals that future Polestar models will place greater emphasis on their sporty character while retaining their minimalist Scandinavian design philosophy.

Formula 2030 is more than just a design novelty. It is intended to be Römer’s first project started from scratch, designed to guide the development of two key models: the next-generation Polestar 2 (launching in 2027) and Polestar 7 (2028).

It’s worth recalling that the Polestar 2 is the most important model in the brand’s history – over 190,000 units have been sold worldwide, making it the driving force behind sales. Its successor must therefore live up to extremely high expectations. Meanwhile, the Polestar 7 is set to enter the most popular segment of compact SUVs, which could help the brand achieve higher sales volumes – we covered this on Elektromobilni.pl.

A difficult time for the brand

The concept emerges at a time when Polestar is facing serious challenges. Following a record-breaking first quarter in 2026, results for the first half of the year cooled investor enthusiasm – sales rose by only 0.4%, while revenue dropped by 4.4%. The company also recorded a net loss of $842 million.

In addition, Polestar was forced to withdraw from the U.S. market after its models were denied approval for sale starting in 2027 under the Connected Vehicle Rule. This is a huge blow that forces the brand to place even greater emphasis on Europe, according to industry experts.

Polestar in Poland: a niche player with an expanding portfolio

In Poland, Polestar remains a niche brand, practically absent, despite the manufacturer announcing a 30-percent expansion of its sales network in Europe. Distribution and service are integrated with selected Volvo locations — in Warsaw (Dom Volvo, Puławska 558) and Wrocław (V-Motors, Bruecknera 55). Currently, only used models are available in our market, including the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, and Polestar 4. Polestar 2 units from the used market regularly appear on classified websites, often at prices below 100,000–150,000 zł for those imported from the US.
