Polestar is introducing a SUV version of the Polestar 4 for 57,900 euros.

Polestar is introducing a SUV version of the Polestar 4 for 57,900 euros.

The Swedish-Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer has unveiled the Polestar 4 SUV. Unlike the Polestar 3, this new body style of the 4 series, along with the coupe version, remains based on the 400-Volt platform. In Germany, the SUV is now available for ordering starting at 57,900 euros, with first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter.

Polestar had already announced in February its intention to significantly expand its model lineup with four new models within three years. In addition to the already launched Polestar 5, the manufacturer also outlined a new generation of the Polestar 2 for 2027 and the Polestar 7 for 2028.

Another variant of the Polestar 4 was also announced for late 2026, though no further details were provided. In May, the existing model received an update and is now officially known as the Polestar 4 Coupé. It is now clear that the new variant is the Polestar 4 SUV.

The new model is not a “raised” version of the Coupé; its ground clearance remains unchanged at 166 millimeters. The differences begin behind the B-pillar. The roof line extends more straightly backward. Additionally, it features a roof rack and a much steeper rear section with an upright trunk lid. The SUV, however, has a traditional rear window. The Coupé omitted this feature, relying solely on a camera and digital side mirror for rear visibility.

Slightly larger, but much more practical

With its revised roof and rear design, the dimensions have barely increased, but the practicality has improved significantly. The Polestar 4 SUV is 4.84 meters long, over 2.14 meters wide including the mirrors, and has a wheelbase of nearly three meters — all identical to the coupe. The only difference lies in height: at 1,556 meters, the SUV is 22 millimeters taller than the coupe at 1,534 meters. This advantage mainly benefits passengers in the back seat, who gain 25 millimeters more headroom.

The Polestar 4 SUV offers 530 liters of trunk space behind the rear seats up to the top of the seat backs, just four liters more than the coupe. The real advantage lies in height: when loaded to the roof, the SUV can hold 655 liters, and by folding the seats in a 60:40 ratio, up to 1,665 liters are available (1,536 liters in the coupe). Both versions also feature a 15-liter frunk. Unlike the coupe, the SUV has a roof rack that can support up to 100 kg. There is no difference in towing capacity compared to the coupe: the rear motor can tow up to 1,500 kilograms, while the dual motor can tow up to 2,000 kilograms.

400 Volt like the Polestar 4 Coupe

Both body style options utilize Geely Group’s SEA platform with a 400-volt architecture. The Polestar 3, on the other hand, is based on the SPA2 platform and now features an 800-volt architecture. Like the coupe, the SUV is also available in two powertrain variants. In the Rear Motor version, the electric motor at the rear axle delivers 200 kW of power and 343 Nm of torque. With the Dual Motor version, two electric motors together provide a system power output of 400 kW and 686 Nm of torque. The top speed is 200 km/h.

The necessary energy is provided by a battery with an energy capacity of 100 kWh (gross) in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. Despite the higher body design and a slight weight increase of 35 kg (rear motor) or 20 kg (dual motor), the WLTP range of the Polestar 4 SUV is slightly better. The rear motor version achieves up to 630 kilometers of range, which is ten kilometers more than the coupe version. The dual motor version lists 600 kilometers instead of 590 kilometers in the specifications. With the performance package, the difference even increases to 20 kilometers: 520 kilometers for the SUV versus 500 kilometers for the coupe.

When charging, the SUV also adopts the same technology as the coupe. Up to 200 kW is possible at DC charging stations. Polestar estimates around 30 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent. On the AC side, 11 kW is standard, meaning a full charge takes 11 hours. It’s significantly faster with a 22-kW charger, which costs an additional 800 euros or can be ordered as part of the 5,900 euro Prime Package, which also includes features such as Pilot Assist, a head-up display, an electric trunk lid, and a three-zone automatic climate control.

A new feature across the entire series is Vehicle-to-Load. Using a separately available adapter, external devices can be powered with single-phase electricity at up to 3.3 kW until the minimum charge level set previously on the central display is reached. The adapter is currently approved only for the German market. Additionally, Polestar introduces a camping mode that allows continued use of climate control, entertainment, and ambient lighting during extended stays in park mode. Both functions will also be available for the Polestar 4 Coupé via a software update. The voice control Google Assistant will also be gradually replaced by Google Gemini. It is not clear from the announcement whether this applies only to the new model year of the Polestar 4 or also to older model years.

2,000 euros cheaper than the coupe

The panoramic glass roof is new for the SUV and larger than that in the coupe: the continuous glass surface extends to the trunk lid and is part of the standard equipment. Exclusively for the SUV, an electrochromic variant is available as an option, whose light transmittance can be adjusted via the central display. Due to the existing rear window, a conventional interior mirror is included in the standard equipment again, unlike the coupe, with the camera-based digital rearview mirror still available as an option.

In Germany, the Polestar 4 SUV can now be ordered. The Rear Motor version starts at 57,900 euros, which is 2,000 euros cheaper than the coupe, whose listed price of 61,900 euros has been reduced by Polestar. The Dual Motor version costs at least 65,900 euros. Here too, the difference from the currently discounted coupe is 2,000 euros.

The Polestar 4 SUV is already being produced in Busan, South Korea, with manufacturing starting in the second quarter. Although the model is already available for ordering, it will still take some time before the first units reach customers. Deliveries are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, but Polestar indicates in its configurator that deliveries for the German market will occur between January and February 2027.
