New car registrations in the first 8 months of 2026 by brand and alternative propulsion types

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has released data on new car registrations over the first eight months of 2026.
Vehicles with alternative powertrains accounted for 66.5% of total new car registrations, amounting to 1,306,190 units out of 1,965,024 total new cars registered.
The number of new vehicles with alternative powertrains (electric/BEV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, gas, hydrogen) was 22.2% higher than in the first eight months of the previous year.

735,364 new vehicles, or 37.4 percent, were equipped with electric drive systems (electric/BEV, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell), representing a 39.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

515,545 electric/BEV cars were newly registered during the reporting period. This accounts for 26.2 percent of the total registrations, marking a 53.1 percent increase from the same period last year.
