New car registrations in the first 7 months of 2026 by brand and alternative propulsion types

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has released data on new car registrations for the first seven months of 2026.

Vehicles with alternative powertrains accounted for 65.7 percent of the total 1,752,461 new car registrations, with 1,151,686 of these being alternative-powered vehicles. The number of such new cars (electric/BEV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, gas, hydrogen) exceeded last year’s level by 21.7 percent after the first seven months of 2026.

Of the total newly registered vehicles, 641,028 were equipped with electric drive systems (electric/BEV, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell), accounting for 36.6 percent. Compared to the previous year’s period, registrations of vehicles with this type of drive increased by 38.3 percent.

446,615 electric/BEV cars were newly registered during the reporting period. This represented 25.5 percent of the total registrations and a 50.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
