A flood of orders for ID.Polo and Skoda Epiq

A surge in orders for the ID.Polo and Epiq: according to German media, the small VW model has already seen 30,000 orders, while its sibling Skoda model has received 35,000 orders. Good news amid a very difficult period for the Wolfsburg giant.

Rising Orders and Prolonging Delivery Times

The numbers are impressive but come with a downside: delivery times. Automobilwoche cites sources at Volkswagen stating that waiting periods for new orders are already up to 10 months today, though this depends on the chosen trim level. What is certain is that reservations, which opened in April, saw a sharp increase after the Trend version starting at 24,995 euros became available for ordering. It joins the initial Life version, which costs 33,795 euros in Germany. The pressure now falls entirely on the group’s Spanish plant, Martorell. Where does this surge in interest come from? According to a company spokesperson, the ID. Polo “has significantly exceeded initial expectations, especially in Germany.” The same holds true for the Epiq, which, as a Skoda model, offers more competitive prices for similar products.

The most sought-after version with a range of 323 km

The base version of the ID.Polo, the Trend, is best suited for those who travel between cities and their surrounding areas. It features a small 37 kWh LFP battery and an 85 kW electric motor, offering a range of 323 kilometers. It also comes with DC fast charging up to 88 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in 23 minutes. The more expensive version, on the other hand, has a 52 kWh NMC battery, providing a range of up to 450 kilometers, along with motors of 99 kW or 155 kW. But Volkswagen has decided to offer the 37 kWh battery even in its more expensive trims, “Life” and “Style”. The bottom line: people still claim electric cars don’t sell well. But when demand exists, wait times stretch beyond expectations...
