Absolute boom in the Volkswagen Group: 70,000 record sales for its three cheapest Spanish-made electric cars

Volkswagen Group has found the key. A formula capable of convincing European electric car buyers with relatively small models, ranges exceeding 400 km in their best versions, and especially starting prices around 25,000 euros. The initial sales results for the CUPRA Raval, Volkswagen ID. Polo, and Škoda Epiq indicate significant success.

The three models are part of the new Electric Urban Car Family and have already received combined orders of over 70,000, according to the latest figures from Volkswagen Group. Demand is high enough to result in long waiting periods. Some currently configured vehicles won’t be delivered until May or June 2027.

Over 30,000 ID. Polo and 35,000 Škoda Epiq units have already been ordered

Volkswagen states that the new ID. Polo has already received more than 30,000 orders in Europe. The electric vehicle opened for pre-orders at the end of April and began mass production in early June at the Martorell plant, alongside the CUPRA Raval. A representative from one of Volkswagen’s major dealership groups, cited by Automobilwoche, even mentioned wait times of at least 10 months for certain custom-configured units.

Volkswagen itself has acknowledged that delivery times have increased due to what it describes as a very positive lawsuit and the long-term production capacity planned in Martorell. The waiting time will depend on the selected version and equipment, while units pre-configured by dealers may be delivered considerably sooner.

The ID. Polo is available in Germany starting at 24,995 euros and comes in versions with 116, 135, and 211 horsepower. The first two use a 37 kWh net battery, while the most powerful version employs a 52 kWh battery that allows for ranges of over 450 km. All versions are built on the MEB+ platform and, unlike previous Volkswagen electric vehicles, feature front-wheel drive.

The Škoda Epiq continues to see growing demand. The Czech brand has already received over 35,000 orders, with some dealers claiming that both this model and the CUPRA Raval are practically sold out for the coming months. For certain configured Epiq models, delivery dates as early as May or June 2027 are already available.

Škoda’s electric SUV also uses the MEB+ platform, can deliver 211 horsepower, and offers a range of around 440 kilometers. Production began on June 8 at Volkswagen’s plant in Navarra, Spain, located in Landaben. In Germany, its starting price was 32,100 euros, though Škoda is preparing an Epiq 35 variant expected to cost 25,900 euros.

The CUPRA Raval completes an electric family fully manufactured in Spain

The third model is the CUPRA Raval. In this case, Volkswagen does not provide an updated individual figure, but we do know that demand for it has been particularly strong. The group recently described the Raval as CUPRA’s most successful launch ever, stating that it drove an 85% increase in orders for the brand’s electric vehicles during the second quarter.

The Raval is manufactured alongside the ID. Polo in Martorell. It measures approximately four meters, also uses the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive, and its versions equipped with a 52 kWh battery achieve up to 445 km of range and 226 horsepower.

The key point is to examine all three models together. Volkswagen Group initially reported over 54,000 orders for this new electric family, later raising that figure to more than 70,000 units. And this was before completing the original plan of four models for its new generation of urban electric vehicles.

Last but not least, there is another factor particularly important for Spain: the three vehicles responsible for much of this demand are manufactured here. The ID. Polo and CUPRA Raval come from Martorell, while the Škoda Epiq is produced in Navarra, where the Volkswagen ID. Cross will also be manufactured soon. Volkswagen Group’s strategy of producing its most affordable electric vehicles in our country thus begins with a strong backlog of orders, and in some cases, customers will have to wait until mid-2027 to receive their cars.
