Three companies unveiled a bus-like camper that can serve as a typical mobile home. Thanks to the Evolve platform, getting into the vehicle is supposed to be easier, with a completely flat floor and more usable space. The vehicle is equipped with a modular battery with a capacity of 128 kWh, allowing it to achieve “400 kilometers of real range,” which corresponds to a consumption rate of 32 kWh/100 km.

Bus-like camper weighing 3.5 tons

The creators of the prototype claim the vehicle weighs “less than 3.5 tons.” Since most countries have already regulated a maximum gross weight of 4.25 tons for electric vehicles—as allowed by EU regulations—the additional 750 kilograms of capacity can be used to upgrade the camper bus, transport bicycles, luggage, or even passengers!

A battery with a capacity of 128 kWh, charged using a charger capable of 200 kW, should allow the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes. We assume that “200 kW” is a shorthand used by the vehicle’s designers to refer to an “ultra-fast charger,” because 70% of the battery’s capacity, plus losses, amounts to 96 kWh. Therefore, to meet this claim within 20 minutes (1/3 hour), an average power of 288 kW would be required, rather than 200 kW. If our assumption is correct, this suggests the vehicle uses an 800 V architecture.

But most importantly, the car’s battery can be used to power all devices, including kitchens, water heaters, and heat pumps. The V2L technology is designed to supply energy to external electrical devices, with V2H and V2G also set to be included. However, the most significant feature of this camper bus is the use of the Evolve platform with a low floor, which improves the comfort of operating such vehicles and also allows for the creation of buses or vans with kitchens that are more accessible to shorter people.
