Orlen Charge in the Elocity app. Regular prices

The Orlen Charge network is now available in the Elocity mobile app. Since Elocity is likely the most popular app that aggregates charging stations from various operators in one place, Orlen can gain access to customers who were previously unaware of the development of this Polish giant’s infrastructure. The downside is the price — Elocity does not offer a summer promotion for cheaper charging. To take advantage of it, one must create an account in the Orlen Vitay app.

Orlen Charge chargers have been available for roaming for several months, and they could be used without issues with accounts linked to some electric vehicles (such as Mercedes). They have long been present in built-in navigation systems and are used to determine routes; vehicles like Volvo or Renault often utilized them (Google Maps), but they always required the use of the operator’s app: first Orlen Charge, and more recently Orlen Vitay (Android HERE, iPhone/iOS HERE).

Collaborating with Elocity can hold significant marketing value for a company. In a sense, it’s equivalent to setting up chargers along frequently used routes. As Mr. Dariusz writes to us, who noticed the operator’s charging stations in Elocity already yesterday, nowadays traveling around Poland only requires the Elocity app (Android HERE, iPhone/iOS HERE; about 80 percent of chargers in Poland), GreenWaya, and Teslas. This is because Orlen and GreenWay are two competing entities when it comes to network coverage, while Tesla’s Superchargers tend to be inexpensive and are certainly reliable.

The downside is the prices: 2.69 PLN/kWh for DC and 1.96 PLN/kWh for AC, without any promotions. The latter rate is even 1 grosz higher than what Orlen Charge’s official price list shows. Still, it is cheaper than some other providers; GreenWay (2.99 PLN/kWh without a subscription) and Powerdot perform worse. Among the popular networks, Lidl is slightly better, though it falls short in terms of power output. If we’re lucky, we can find an Ekoenu, Budimeks (both operated by Elocity), or Enefit charger nearby.
